The Senior Class and Quinta Essentia
donated $600 to Adopt-a-Family in a
ceremony on Dec. 6 in front of
the tree.
The Christmas tree on the
second floor of the Harding
Building held Christmas
ornaments that members of
both clubs donated and
students purchased.
“Students wrote their
names on tags that
were placed on the
ornaments and hung
the ornament on the
tree,” said Diana
Martinez, English
The ornaments. which sold for $1 each,
not only have the purpose of decorating the
tree, but these ornaments helped raise the
$600 that helped adopt five families in
need.
“All students and faculty were willing
to buy ornaments; nobody complained
about the price,” added
Martinez.
Seniors also donated stockings,
which then sold for $5 to VMT
clubs and LISD offices.
Students who led this event
were Senior Class members
and officers Alyssa Garza,
Ashley Reilly and Amanda Cruz.
Martinez said she plans to do
it again in the coming
years.
“What a better way to
learn the value of caring,
sharing and giving,”
Martinez added.
Many students donated
ornaments and
stockings and many
helped by selling
the ornaments.
In a ceremony
by the tree on
Dec. 6, Gloria
Jackson, representative
from the Laredo Food Bank,
accepted a large-sized check
for $600.
“Don’t feel guilty opening
your (Christmas) gifts.
Know that because of you
all, a family can eat,”
Jackson said.
Martinez was pleased by the
students’ efforts.
“I am very proud of the
students’ initiative and
cooperation. They have
demonstrated great
leadership skills and are
excellent role models in
our school,” Martinez said.
