Greetings and welcome to St. Paul’s! We are located in west Akron at 1361
West Market Street, not far from Highland Square, Portage Country Club, Our
Lady of the Elms, and Hawkins Avenue, to name a few well-known landmarks.
Our large building and spacious parking lot make us difficult to miss, but we’ve
included a map and a building diagram to make your visit easy and uncomplicated.
First time visitors usually arrive on a Sunday morning, taking part in a worship
service, our education hour, and some social mingling during coffee hour. So
here is a little bit more about Sundays.

Our Worship Services take place in the Chapel and in the Church. The Chapel is located on the bottom level of
the church near the Kenilworth parking lot. The Church is on the main level and is easily to access from anywhere
in our main parking lot. In the summer, some services take place outside the Chapel.

9:15 AM in The Church (in the Courtyard in the summer)

10:15 AM from September through May for everyone
In the summer, only Adult Education is offered

Our Welcome Desk has lots of important materials. Worship Bulletins lay out clearly the flow of our services,
making it easy to participate since we don’t think worship is a spectator sport. Our Weekly Bulletin advertises
what goes on here during the week, and when it all happens. Copies of our monthly newsletter, The Messenger,
are available, too. Say Hello to one of our Greeters or Ushers and pick up other important publications:

We believe in face-to-face worship here. No big screens in the sanctuary. No flashing lights. No ear-crushing,
loud music. We’re operating with a great tradition, and making it lively and relevant. It’s all part of living in the
fullness of Christ.

Learning on Sundays
Church School for Children
You’ll get to meet Sheila Svoboda,
our Family Minister and Director of Church School.
Just come through the East Doors, head straight past the Welcome Desk, and
use the stairwell to the right or the elevator to the left, to go up to the top floor.
Classes for preschool through sixth grade meet upstairs. So does seventh grade,
where we prepare student for confirmation, as young adults, into the life of our
church.
Grades Eight through Twelve meet downstairs.

Entering through the East Doors, head straight past the Welcome Desk and use
the stairwell to the right or the elevator to the left, to go down to the bottom
floor. Or, on the bottom floor, the youth room has its own entrances via Kenilworth,
at the horseshoe drive, near the Chape, and through the auditorium/gym.

including Mark Pruitt and Dena Cleaver-Batholomew.
Entering through the East Doors, turn right before coming to the Welcome Desk
to use the stairs down to the lower floor, or head straight past the Welcome Desk
to the elevator to the left to get to the bottom floor. Classrooms are on the left at
the bottom of the front stairwell.

The Reverend Mark J. Pruitt, Rector, of St. Paul’s began here in 2007 after serving
for eight years as Chaplain and Chair of the Theology and Religious Studies
Department at St. George’s School in Newport, Rhode Island where he taught
courses in Scripture, Ethics, Religious Themes in Literature, Twentieth Century
Theology, and Western Civilization, while coaching soccer and supervising a dormitory. Prior to that Mark
served as the Rector of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Butler, PA, as an Assistant Chaplain at the University of
Cambridge (Peterhouse Chapel), and also as The Director of Youth Ministries at St. James Episcopal Church in
Potomac, MD. Mark is married to Becky and they have two children, Elizabeth and Andrew.

The Reverend Dena Cleaver-Bartholomew, Associate Rector came to St. Paul’s
in 2006 after serving as the Associate Rector at St. James’ Episcopal Church in
Dexter, Michigan for five years. She has also served at Church of the Epiphany
in Atlanta, Georgia; Holy Trinity Parish in Decatur, Georgia; St. Peter’s Episcopal
Church in San Pedro, California; and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Atlanta, Georgia. Dena received a
Master of Divinity from Yale University and a Master of Theology from Emory University. Her areas of interest
are preaching, teaching, theology, systems theory and congregational development. Yes, she reads theology
for fun. Dena is married to the Rev. Dr. David Cleaver-Bartholomew, Association Minister for Eastern Ohio for
the United Church of Christ. Dena and David have two children, Audrey and Lydia. Dena enjoys power walking
and has a special fondness for dogs.
