The James E. Longnecker Competition Pool is one of the nation’s top
small-college aquatic facilities. The 8-lane facility is regarded as one of the
fastest pools in the region and is reserved solely for use by the College’s
swimming and water polo athletes.
The shallow end of the Pool is seven feet; thus the Pool is able to host
several Collegiate Water Polo Association events that are restricted from
“shallow-deep” pools.
Since 2000, Grove City College has hosted several CWPA championship
events. Last year, the CWPA held the Division III Championships at
Grove City. In 2008, Grove City hosted the CWPA Western Division Championships.
Grove City also hosts the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Swimming
and Diving Championships each year.
The James E. Longnecker Competition Pool is 25 yards in length and
56 feet wide. The seating capacity of the Pool area is approximately 400.

HEAD COACH RACHEL GRIEPSMA
A new era of Grove City women’s water polo begins this year as Rachel Griepsma
takes over as Grove City College's head women's water polo coach.
The College hired her in August 2012 as head women's water polo coach and assistant
swimming and diving coach.
Griepsma is the fourth head coach in program history, following Keith Bullion (2000-
02), Dave Fritz (2002-09) and Jon Miller (2010-12).
She joined the College’s Department of Physical Education and Athletics after spending
the 2012 season as a graduate assistant coach at her alma mater, Mercyhurst University.
Griepsma started from 2008 to 2011 for Mercyhurst’s women’s water polo team
and compiled one of the finest careers in program history.
She graduated as Mercyhurst’s all-time leading scorer with 246 goals, including an
80-goal season in 2008.
She earned Collegiate Water Polo Association Western Division First Team honors
in all four of her seasons and twice earned Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches First Team All-America
status.
A native of Lindsay, Ontario, Griepsma also spent three seasons as the starting goalkeeper for Mercyhurst’s
women’s soccer team. She compiled 22 wins and 16 shutouts in her career.
Griepsma earned a bachelor of science degree in sports medicine (exercise science concentration) in 2011 at
Mercyhurst. In summer 2012, she completed her master’s degree in exercise science at Mercyhurst.
She lives in Grove City.

2013 SEASON PREVIEW
Grove City Looking For Fourth Straight CWPA Division III Crown
As the Grove City College women's water polo team
prepares for the 2013 season, no one would be surprised
if the team chose "four" as its magic number for
the upcoming campaign.
The youthful Wolverines return four letterwinners
from last year's 18-8 performance. Grove City will also
be in pursuit of its fourth consecutive Collegiate Water
Polo Association Division III title this spring.
Meanwhile, Rachel Griepsma enters her first season
as the fourth head coach in program history.
While the 2013 Wolverines will be a relatively young
squad, the team does feature experience in key positions.
In goal, senior Amanda Johnston returns for her
fourth year as the starter.
Johnston earned Honorable Mention All-America
honors as a junior and has earned multiple All-CWPA
Division III citations throughout her career.
She posted a .646 save percentage last year and
will again anchor the Grove City defense.
Junior Kristi Baur has emerged as one of Grove
City's most versatile players during her first two seasons.
Sophomore Lauren Hulsebus made an immediate
impact as a rookie in 2012, helping Grove City capture
the conference title.
Sophomore Jocelyn Hinkle racked up 38 goals and 47
assists as a freshman. She is a returning starter and
letterwinner for Grove City.
Last year, she fired in 27 goals and finished second
on the team with 43 assists.
A defensive stalwart, Baur also had 48 steals.
Two sophomores return after making significant
contributions last year: Jocelyn Hinkle and Lauren
Hulsebus.
Hinkle led Grove City with 47 assists and also
pumped in 38 goals. Hinkle also finished second on
the team in steals with 56.
Hulsebus led Grove City's newcomers with 41 goals
and is the top returning scorer for the Wolverines. She
also assisted on 35 goals and will likely be a key offensive
source in 2013.
The Wolverines will also be augmented by the addition
of junior transfer Lauren Burrows, who earned
two letters at former CWPA Division III rival Chatham.
She will likely be a key factor at both ends of the
pool this season.
Several newcomers are also expected to contribute
this year for the Wolverines.
Grove City opens the 2013 season March 1-2 by
hosting an invitational in the James E. Longnecker Pool.

2012 REVIEW
The 13th season of intercollegiate women's water
polo at Grove City College proved to be anything but
unlucky for the Wolverines in 2012 as the program secured
its third consecutive Collegiate Water Polo Association
Division III title.
Grove City finished the season with an 18-8 overall
record, the best single-season mark in program history.
The 2012 season featured numerous individual accomplishments
and accolades. Senior Chelsea Johnson
concluded her career as the Wolverines' all-time leading
scorer with 293 goals.
She earned Division III Co-Player of the Year and
All-America honors from the Association of Collegiate
Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) following the season.
Meanwhile, senior Andrea Wilson earned ACWPC
All-America recognition and junior Amanda Johnston
captured Honorable Mention All-America distinction.
Johnson, Johnston and Wilson also earned All-
CWPA Division III recognition from the league's head
coaches following the season.
While veterans played a big part in Grove City's
2012 success, sophomore Kristi Baur and newcomers
Jocelyn Hinkle and Lauren Hulsebus also made significant
contributions.
In her second season as a starter, Baur broke the
program's single-season assist record and led the team
in sprints won.
She also ranked among the team leaders nearly
every other statistical category.
Hinkle led the team with a program-record 47 assists
and Hulsebus led the rookies with 41 goals.
Grove City closed the season with the finest run in
program history as the Wolverines won 16 of their final
18 matches.
For the second time in three years, Grove City
posted an undefeated record in CWPA Division III conference
play as the Wolverines went 10-0.
The Wolverines hosted the 2012 conference championships
April 20-21, where their dominance continued.
After downing Chatham in the quarterfinals, 19-2,
Grove City rolled to a 13-3 victory over fifth-seeded
Connecticut College in the semifinals.
The Wolverines then pummeled Washington &
Jefferson, 10-3, in the title match and earned their third
straight conference title.
Johnson earned tournament MVP honors after
scoring a dozen total goals in just three matches.
All-time, Grove City is 35-1 in CWPA Division III conference
play.

ABOUT GROVE CITY COLLEGE
The beautifully landscaped campus
of Grove City College stretches
over 150 acres and includes 28 neo-
Gothic buildings. It is considered one
of the loveliest in the nation.
While the College has changed
to meet the needs of the society it
serves, its basic philosophy has remained
unchanged since its founding
in 1876. It is a Christian, liberal
arts institution, dedicated to the
principle of providing the highest
quality education at the lowest possible
cost.
Wishing to remain truly independent
and to retain its distinctive
qualities as a private school governed
by private citizens (trustees),
it is one of few colleges in the country
that does not accept federal
funds.
Affiliated with the Presbyterian
Church (U.S.A.), but not narrowly denominational,
the College believes
that to be well-educated a student
should be exposed to the central
ideas of the Judeo-Christian tradition.
Grove City College offers undergraduate
degrees in liberal arts, sciences,
engineering, business, and
music and is distinguished as a national
leader in education.
Grove City’s programs in electrical
and mechanical engineering
are accredited by the Engineering
Accreditation Commission Board of
the Accreditation Board for Engineering
and Technology.
The “big business school curriculum”
prepares students for
today’s global business reality. An
extensive variety of internship opportunities
are provided across the
curriculum.
Grove City College wants its students
to be prepared in this age of
mobile information technology.
Each entering freshman receives
a tablet computer which is his or hers
to keep upon graduation with a
four-year degree.
This is part of the Information
Technology Initiative, a total program
integrating technology across
the curriculum.

Grove City follows the semester
calendar plan, in addition to offering
two-week sessions in January
and May.
Most of the 2,500 students live
in separate men’s and women’s dormitories.
The rest are local commuters
or married students.
A full program of cultural, professional,
athletic and social activities
is offered, including 19 intercollegiate
varsity athletic teams.
Grove City, a town of 8,100
people, is located 60 miles north of
Pittsburgh. It is located near
Interstates 79 and 80 and has a municipal
airport.

Grove City’s athletic facilities have undergone
numerous renovations and improvements in recent
years, with more upgrades scheduled in the
immediate future.
On lower campus, Robert E. Thorn Field is home
to the College’s football and track and field teams.
The College installed CSTurf at Robert E. Thorn
Field. CSTurf is a synthetic playing surface that
features polyethylene LSR grass fibers and a rubber
infill system.
The College also installed lights and resurfaced
the 8-lane track around the field. Grove City also
reconfigured its setup for track meets during these
renovations.
In 2011, the College installed a new state-ofthe-art
scoreboard and new bleachers on the visitors’
side at Thorn Field.
These upgrades benefit the entire campus community
as the complex is used by both the College’s
club sports teams and its intramural program,
along with the varsity teams.
The track is also available for use by recreational
walkers and joggers. The complex also features
10 all-weather tennis courts next to the stadium.
Phillips Field House, located at the north end
of the complex, features several locker rooms, an
athletic training room, meeting rooms and coaches’
offices. It is used by the football, track and tennis
programs throughout the academic year.
The Physical Learning Center (PLC) houses the
Grove City College Arena, home to the College’s
basketball and volleyball programs.
In summer 2012, the College renovated the
Arena by installing new lighting and a new playing
floor. In recent years, the Arena has also received
new scoreboards and scorers’ tables.
The James E. Longnecker Pool is one of the nation’s
premier small-college venues for both swimming
and diving and water polo.
The home of Grove City’s football and track and
field teams, Robert E. Thorn Field has received
numerous renovations in recent years.
In addition, the PLC features the James E.
Longnecker Pool, one of the premier aquatic facilities
in the region. Each year, Grove City hosts the
Presidents’ Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving
Championships at the state-of-the-art facility.
In 2012, the College also hosted the Collegiate
Water Polo Association Division III Championships
at the James E. Longnecker Pool.
The PLC also features a second pool, the Recreational
Pool, which is used by members of the
College community year-round.
A fitness room featuring aerobic and Cybex
equipment and a separate weight room with free
and mechanized weights are also keystone areas
of the facility.
The PLC also features six racquetball/handball
courts as well as two adjacent intramural rooms.
The intramural rooms each feature four basketball
courts, four indoor tennis courts, four volleyball
courts, an indoor track and two indoor jumping
pits.
The College installed new synthetic flooring and
several new electronic scoreboards throughout the
intramural rooms.
The Physical Learning Center houses the athletic
training room, locker rooms and offices for
coaches and physical education faculty.
The College recently constructed a new office
suite for coaches and athletic administration, while
also incorporating its Athletic Hall of Fame area.
Grove City’s outdoor athletic facilities have also
received numerous upgrades in recent years.
The varsity soccer field, College Field, was expanded
and re-sodded during the summer of 2005.
College Field also received a new press box during
the summer of 2007.
Meanwhile, Grove City’s baseball and softball
facilities recently received major facelifts as new
dugouts, new fencing and electronic scoreboards
were installed on both fields.
