It is better to provide information on multiple abstraction levels with high-level abstractions complementing lower level details [26]. Abuse Situation Awareness generates this with real-time visualizations, providing high level abstractions (Figure 7). By clicking on the interactive images users can drill down to more detailed information for a more closer analysis (Figure 8). Also, the analyst can highlight different aspects of the collected information by choosing the visualized datasets differently (Figure 9). Collaboration Global situation awareness is essential for understanding the threat landscape. Many actors only have an “island view” of events, knowing what is happening in their own network. Yet, global abuse situation awareness is the key to understanding global incident trends. The global view enables authorities and major players in different countries to share intelligence on the development of the incident and coordinate their responses [27]. Due to the sheer volume of dynamic information involved, visualizations are essential to providing global abuse situation awareness. AbuseSA provides a combination of interactive earth-view visualizations and abuse categorizations based on location, abuse type and industry.
