Specifications<br />
ARTICLE 6. The javelin shall conform to the international specifications for the<br />
implement published by the IAAF. The specifications below and in Figure 19 are<br />
reprinted for reference purposes only and may not be all inclusive.<br />
The minimum overall weight, inclusive of cord grip, shall be 800 grams and<br />
600 grams for the men’s and women’s javelin, respectively.<br />

SECTION 12. Calibration of<br />
Measuring Devices<br />
It is recommended that all equipment used for timing, measuring wind,<br />
weighing and measuring implements, and measuring performance be certified for<br />
accuracy by an appropriate testing agency in accordance with methods specified<br />
by the manufacturer, before the first competition each year and preferably before<br />
each major competition, to comply with <strong>Rules</strong> 6-1.12 and 6-1.15.<br />
Verification of the accuracy of devices used to measure distance can be<br />
accomplished by comparison to an available surveyed distance.
