• Describe the characteristics of the study population, including the<br />

species, strain, ages, sex, and numbers of animals to be used in the<br />

project. Explain the rationale for involvement of animals.<br />

• *In addition to the narrative, you must also complete and submit forms<br />

to the <strong>Sutter</strong> Institute for Medical Research’s Animal Care and Use<br />

Committee (ACUC). The forms are available through the SIMR Research<br />

Office. It is recommended that investigators meet with the SIMR<br />

Veterinarian prior to submitting forms to the ACUC for review. Include a<br />

copy of the completed forms with your proposal. It is not necessary to<br />

obtain ACUC approval prior to submitting your proposal, but ACUC<br />

approval must be obtained prior to commencement of the project.<br />

Dissemination of the results<br />

Describe how you plan to use the results of the study. Discuss where you<br />

plan on publishing the results of your findings.<br />

Bibliography<br />

Format the bibliography using the format suggested by the American<br />

Medical Association.<br />
