Reggie Dabbs Comes to Nightcliff Middle School On Thursday the 8 th of September, year 9 and some year 8 students were inspired by a guest motivational speaker named Reggie Dabbs on his nationwide tour of Australia. The teachers and students were blown away by the power of what Reggie had to say. This is what two of our students have to say about what they experienced. “Reggie Dabbs was amazing. He made many cry and many laugh. He came to our school and put on a show about his life, he left our school one hell of a hero. Everyone in yr 9 and some yr 8 students participated in the talk as well as many teachers. Reggie Dabbs is a well known guy that travels the world telling schools about his life and how strong he was to go through everything he did. Reggie was a funny guy to begin with but no one knew what he had behind him, he had a very tough childhood. He now has a beautiful young boy and a wife that‟s a flight attendant. Reggie plays the saxophone and is well and truly good at it. He is a proud man, proud about his choices he made and is an inspiration to many students and many adults.” Reggie Dabbs - “He was truly amazing and so inspirational, I thought he was just a funny guy that the school had sent here to convince us to do something with ourselves, like most other guest speakers do, but he was different. He started out funny and then told us his story, he is one of the strongest people I have ever met. I am going to seriously take in what he has said because he has ‟got my back‟. (:‟
Stranger Danger YEAR 10 INFORMATION EVENING CSC invites students who will be in Year 10 in 2012 and their parents to an Information Evening. Tuesday, 20 September, 5:30pm – 6:30pm in the Library. Phone: 8920 1211 Email: csc.admin@ntschools.net Parents, please discuss with your child, the importance of being aware of situations where someone may approach them and they feel unsafe. Give your child the knowledge and strategies to help to protect themselves in dangerous situations. Also, keep your child’s age and maturity level in mind and base lessons upon that. The single most important thing to remember when teaching your children about stranger danger is to instill confidence, rather than fear. If they are approached by a “bad” stranger who tries to lure or physically pull them away, the best thing they can do is get the attention of other adults - whether that is by running to the nearest home, or making enough noise to be heard by someone, the vast majority of adults will help a child in danger. The four R’s are: Recognise the danger Refuse any offer Run away Report it to the first person they feel safe with Also if any student sees anything unusual or feels unsafe please report this information to the school immediately.
