Life Span: 12 to 14 years<br />

Color: Black, blue, dark or light gray, silver,<br />

platinum, fawn or cream<br />

Grooming: Weekly, using a pin brush and<br />

comb.<br />

Height/Weight: <strong>The</strong> <strong>Skye</strong> <strong>Terrier</strong> breed<br />

standard calls for a male to be 10 inches<br />

in height at the withers and a female 9.5<br />

inches. Today, most <strong>Skye</strong>s are slightly larger.<br />

Male <strong>Skye</strong>s weigh from 28 to 38 pounds,<br />

with females being slightly less.<br />

Personality: <strong>Skye</strong>s are loyal and affectionate<br />

with those they know. Reserved and<br />

cautious when first introduced to strangers.<br />

Trainability: <strong>Skye</strong>s are highly intelligent<br />

and train well using positive reinforcement.<br />

Activity Level: Moderate<br />

Known Health Problems: <strong>Skye</strong> <strong>Terrier</strong>s are<br />

a relatively healthy breed.<br />

Good with children Yes, with children<br />

who are taught to interact with dogs. Very<br />

young children should always be supervised<br />

with any pet.<br />

Good with other pets Yes, when raised<br />

together. However, caution need be taken<br />

with very small pets that might be perceived<br />

by a <strong>Skye</strong> as prey.<br />
