guest curator Guli Silberstein in
response to our open curatorial
callout for an exhibition that
explores The Heroic in the
Everyday. Here’s what Guli had
to say about the exhibition, which
features work by Liron Kroll,
Jean-Gabriel Periot, Kate Rowles
and Guli Silberstein:
How did you approach curating
Focusing on art as communication,
the video art works in the exhibition
were selected for collaboratively raising
awareness of ideas about freedom,
domination and retaliation, manifested in
the video works’ content and form.
What can visitors expect to see
Four short video art works by British
and International artists will be shown
in the exhibition. The main characters
in the videos, coming from diverse
backgrounds, struggle for freedom in
different ways and with different degrees
of success. The issue of the heroic exists
not only in the works’ content but also in
the artists’ brave approaches, and in the
unconventional forms of the videos.
How can visitors get involved
There will be shelves with books
connected to the video works’ themes
available to read. Activity postcards will be
provided, along with writing and drawing
equipment. I’d love people of all ages to
respond to the works and reflect on what
they see and feel. The finished postcards
will become part of the exhibition itself.
We’d also welcome questions, feedback
and thoughts for the artists online or in
person.
