R. Ellen Avellino, NGC Design Instructor<br />

R. Ellen Avellino is an accomplished designer who<br />

has achieved the highest accolades in her pursuit <strong>of</strong><br />

artistic floral expression, including numerous “best<br />

<strong>of</strong> shows”. Nationwide, Ellen lectures, demonstrates<br />

and leads workshops for designers <strong>of</strong> all levels <strong>of</strong><br />

interest and ability and many floral interest<br />

publications have featured her designs. Ellen<br />

passionately believes in the art <strong>of</strong> floral design and<br />

brings an invigorating, enthusiastic and unique<br />

perspective to the NGC flower show school<br />

classroom. Ellen, with her extended family<br />

including parents, children and grandchildren, lives<br />

in Connecticut.<br />

Dorthy Yard, NGC Horticulture and <strong>Flower</strong><br />

<strong>Show</strong> Procedure Instructor<br />

Dorthy is a native <strong>of</strong> Western Pennsylvania,. She is a<br />

graduate <strong>of</strong> California State College. She received<br />

her Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Science in Education in Mathematics<br />

and her Master <strong>of</strong> Arts in Counseling and Guidance<br />

from West Virginia University.<br />

Dorthy is:<br />

• Past President <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Garden</strong> Club Federation <strong>of</strong><br />

Pennsylvania<br />

• Four Star Member <strong>of</strong> the National <strong>Garden</strong> Club<br />

– she has completed all four schools.<br />

• Currently the National <strong>Garden</strong> Club Area<br />

Accrediting Chairman for the Deep South<br />

Region.<br />

Dorothy’s other pastimes include: needlework,<br />

reading and crossword puzzles.<br />
