Our Vision and Mission: … to provide leadership for community based services that foster self-sufficiency and enrich quality of life. We work to fulfill our mission everyday through management of 23 communitybased programs that serve over 20,000 people annually in Mesa, Delta, Montrose and Ouray counties. These programs range from pre-natal services to assisted and retirement living communities. At Hilltop, we are not only dedicated to serving the underserved, but in also working with communities, clients, and other service providers to identify barriers to success. By recognizing barriers and working in partnership with other service providers to design seamless systems of care in the communities in which we live and work, we allow the expressed needs of those communities and clients to guide us to provide services that are both efficient and effective. From the President of the Board: Welcome to the 2006 edition of Hilltop’s Annual Report. Hilltop is an organization that never stands still because there are always new, unmet needs in our growing communities. Hilltop has 13 campuses where 23 programs deliver much needed services to Mesa, Delta, Montrose and Ouray counties although the primary area served is Mesa County. With this comes the constant need to renovate and maintain buildings and the ongoing operational needs of each program. Needless to say, it is always a busy year at Hilltop. Each one of Hilltop’s program managers is charged with the responsibility to monitor client needs, identify gaps in service and maintain an efficient operating budget. That said, the bottom line of the organization will always be about the client – Hilltop does what is needed to help people. This year, Hilltop reorganized several of our programs under single management designs to improve services, efficiencies and financial outlooks. These included: Consolidated our Residential Youth Services programs. Miranda Place for adolescent girls, formerly located in Fruita joins Homeward Bound for adolescent boys and Hilltop Youth Corrections, a residential program for boys in placement with the Division of Youth Corrections on the Bacon Campus. The Fountains and The Commons assisted and retirement living communities now have one director overseeing both facilities. This has streamlined our ability to provide consistent, quality care for seniors in Mesa County. B4 Babies pre-natal program, Kiddin’ Around Learning Center, a childcare center and Family First parenting program are now centrally located at our Child and Family Center located behind the Workforce Center making it easier for families. This past year has also been a time of strengthening our services in Delta, Montrose and Ouray counties. A much needed renovation was completed at our Montrose domestic violence shelter thanks to the support of many in the community; our Tandem Families program has achieved great strides toward keeping children with their natural families and out of foster care; and we continue to work with at-risk youth helping them to transition back into the community. We appreciate these communities welcoming Hilltop and we truly value our growing partnerships with local organizations, businesses and individuals. Thanks for helping us help those in need! For the first time in several years, Hilltop embarked on a Capital Project to build a new community building at our Life Adjustment Program for traumatically brain injured adults. Although it is still in progress, we have received tremendous support thus far and have been thrilled with the opportunity to increase the community’s awareness about how we serve this vulnerable population. Hilltop as an organization is truly a service organization and this philosophy starts with Sally Schaefer, CEO. Hilltop’s management team serves on numerous Boards, service clubs and committees throughout the community and even completed two charity projects – dedicated 112 hours to assist Habitat for Humanity in Montrose and assisted a Los Posos family by painting the exterior of their home. The next year promises to be as busy as the past as the organization moves toward the fulfillment of the LAP Capital Campaign, 18 new retirement living cottages and a recreation project to serve young and old alike. I am grateful to be a part of such an organization and appreciate their commitment to service. Hilltop’s approach to those in need is compassionate. In fact, I’m reminded of the words of Mahatma Gandhi, “You must first be the change you wish to see in the world.” Hilltop’s model delivery system is totally unique in that it combines a profitable business model with the needed community social services programs to create a self sustaining organization of rewarded and motivated employees. As we begin our 57th year of service on the Western Slope, I would like to thank all of the individuals, partners, businesses, service clubs and foundations that generously donate time, resources and money each year. We could not do it without your support! Sincerely, Ron Lappi Board Chairman Enriching Where the lives of the your underserved future . . . begins
