About the Course<br />
The course offers a range<br />
of studies related to sport<br />
sciences in general and<br />
to physical education in<br />
particular from both thematic<br />
and disciplinary perspectives.<br />
You will examine the<br />
interfacing relationship<br />
between sport and physical<br />
education and learn how to<br />
apply theory to practice.<br />
Your main subject will be<br />
Physical Education and, for<br />
the first two years, you will<br />
work alongside BSc Sport<br />
Sciences students to build<br />
up a strong academic and<br />
practical base in this subject.<br />
Brunel offers state-of-theart<br />
sports facilities and<br />
has a national reputation<br />
for its strength in sport.<br />
Many of our students<br />
compete at national or<br />
international level.<br />
You will also undertake<br />
work in education studies,<br />
and take modules in Physical<br />
Education activities and in<br />
all six National Curriculum<br />
areas of expertise. In the final<br />
two years the emphasis shifts<br />
to Professional Education,<br />
leading to a recommendation<br />
for the degree and for<br />
Qualified Teacher Status.<br />
The course will prepare you<br />
to teach the 11-18 age range<br />
and will cover all areas of<br />
the National Curriculum for<br />
Physical Education. It has<br />
been planned in partnership<br />
with local schools and the<br />
Training and Development<br />
Agency for Schools.<br />
You will undertake periods<br />
of extended school<br />
experience in Years 3 and<br />
4 and will work in schools<br />
in each of the four years.<br />
Course Content<br />
Years 1 and 2 focus on<br />
your developing subject<br />
knowledge. Years 3 and<br />
4 develop your ability<br />
to plan and teach your<br />
subject in schools.<br />
