General Collections
Austria - Better middle period issues in un-mounted mint condition. Mostly blocks and pairs, many being marginal on 4 stock
book pages. Excellent quality and the overall catalogue value of this lot is in excess of £2,000++. £375
Australia-: A small lot on three quadrille album pages. There are two pages of Australian postage dues all identified in pencil
underneath the stamps with their respective SG numbers. These have not been checked by us, but are from a regular supplier
and we have not had any adverse remarks previously regarding the identification. Any we have ever checked have been
correct. There is also a small page of stamps overprinted ‘OS’ for official use all reasonable examples (page cats £57.50!). The
overall catalogue of this lot is over £480 £95
Bahamas - George V period on two pages. All mint, we note SG145, 1920 Peace set complete, 1930 Tercentenary set and
SG111/114 Queen’s staircase set with watermark script CA. All in decent condition. Total catalogue value is £175+ £70
Bahawalpur (Pakistan) - Selection of George VI period issues all fine used cancelled by favour as is usual for these stamps.
Comprises SG19-28 (cat £206), SG35/38, SG39/42 plus officials SGO15, SG017/18 and set SGO20/27 (cat £170). The overall
catalogue value is in excess of £570 for what are difficult to obtain issues £225
Belgium - Single A4 Hagner sheet. It is to be considered that all stamps are lightly mounted, although we noted a few
unmounted mint that command a premium as the catalogue price is for mounted. We calculate catalogue value at around
£350, All earlier material including SG1561/6, SG1567/73, SG1621/5 and the earlier red cross items. Clean lot. £80
Belgium - Somewhat battered Davo printed album with well over 100 pages covering the period 1849 through to 1968. Primarily
a used collection but the odd mint stamp sprinkled throughout. Mint represents perhaps 15% of the volume here. 1849/61 nine
stamps in mixed condition; 1863, 1884-88 and 1884-91 issues are complete in used condition as is the later 1893-1900 issue
with tabs. Thereafter a decent spread with many complete pages and would be an excellent starter collection. We believe the
overall catalogue will exceed £1,600 and may exceed £2,000+. £380
Canada - Selection of booklets from the reign of King George VI. Nice lot, all in good condition for these, the staples on all of
the Canadian booklets of this period are prone to rust, they were after all not planned to be in existence some 70 years after
being produced! In order from left to right going across then down the page we have the following booklets; SB41,SB46,
SB41, SB48A, SB48, SB46A, SB46, SB41, SB38, SB41A, SB41B, SB37A and SB37. One booklet (SB46A) has a creased cover
otherwise condition is very good for these. £250
Canada & Newfoundland - The Canadian stamps cover the reigns of Queen Victoria through to George V. Canadian stamps
of this period are somewhat notorious (relative to many other Commonwealth areas) for being prone to thinning on the gum
due to the type of gum used and commonly being thinned when hinges were removed. For used stamps roller cancels and
obliterator types were the norm and cds examples are keenly sought after. The good thing about the used Canadian stamps
here is that they are for the most part much nicer cancels than normal. The mint 1c Jubilee is almost u/m but has a minor gum
bend. A couple of interesting cancels on the Victorian issues including a very nice 6c brown with a concentric rings obliterator.
The Newfoundland lot is a mixed bag of various items mint and used, nothing too special or too awful with many collectable
examples and a couple of better values noted £120
Ceylon & Maldives - An eclectic mix on three A4 stock sheets. We note from Maldives the 1909 set of four mint and then the
1933 issue including 8 of the 9 values including the awkward 5c value and cat a minimum of £75 for the cheapest watermark
(not checked!). There is also a set of the 1970 World Cup stamps, which appear to be imperforate and probably of some
interest. There follows two pages of Ceylon including George V set of eleven mint, Edward VII including 1R (looks unmounted!)
and 2R values. Queen Victoria includes the 1r50 and 2r25 values mint (some faults to these but collectable) and two used copies
of the 1R 12 cents. Later issues include SG477b (surcharge doubled cat £42) and a copy of the unissued footprint stamp from
1968 (cat £35) see footnote beneath SG546. £125
Ceylon - Covering the period from the later part of Queen Victoria’s reign through to the King George VI definitives. Queen
Victoria from SG121 onwards and we note the 1R12c overprint used and an unoverprinted copy with a nice hooded circle
‘Colombo Parcel Post’ cancel. Various Edward VII follow mostly mounted mint.: we have the George VI definitives, specifically
SG386/396b which is the set complete to both 2r values and missing just the top value. These catalogue in excess of £250++
and each block has at least two stamps unmounted mint £180
Channel Islands-Guernsey - First cover is a very nice item to an address on Jethou, one of the smaller Channel Islands and
sent from Guernsey on 17 February 1941 and bears a George V royal cypher 2d stamp bi-sected. Next we have another King
George V royal cypher issue stamp used on a local postcard dated 2 January 1941 with the St. Sampson’s sub post office
double ring cancel. This we consider is a little more philatelic, probably done to get the first possible date in 1941 -1st January
was a public holiday and the post offices were not open. The postcard is a black and white view of some fields with no indication
of where. Possibly some potato fields What is nice is the manuscript legend ‘Occupied Territory’ after Guernsey in the address!
Then we have a First Day Cover of the 1934 Photogravure 2d stamp bi-sected and postmarked for 27 December 1940. Lastly,
we have an example of the 2d Postal Centenary stamp bi-sected on cover for the last day of authorised use on 22 February
1941. £585
Cook Islands - Niue & Samoa A small accumulation on offer today presented on 22 small quadrille album pages. Virtually all
the material is from the George V / George VI period and is in generally good condition. There are a few earlier Victorian items.
Nice little starter lot, nothing especially valuable but the catalogue value is in excess of £340 £105
Germany - Example of the very rare 1933 Welfare Fund Miniature Sheet issued in Germany, SGMS525a. The sheet is
unmounted mint and is the scarcest Miniature Sheet issued by Germany, the 2012 Stanley Gibbons specialised catalogue
10th edition has this priced at £8,000 for unmounted mint, it is a classic item. There is a small mark towards the centre top of
the sheet on the face which looks to have come from handling at some point but that is being very picky £2,750
Germany-West - A single card containing 37 stamps from the early period of West Germany (Bundespost) with 1949 UPU mint,
and West Berlin (Deutsche Post)with Famous Berliners etc. Mixed mint and used, it has been assumed that all mint stamps
have hinge marks although this may not necessarily be the case. This is a very highly catalogued lot, in excess of £1,000 £180
