Workshop Leaders 16 Michael Bausch, an Earl Lectures Preacher in 2002, teaches the use of media arts in worship and is minister of Summit Congregational UCC in Dubuque, IA. He is the author of Silver Screen, Sacred Story: Using Multimedia in Worship (2002). Sally Bingham is a priest in the Diocese of California, chair of the Episcopal Diocesan Commission for the Environment, and has been active in the environmental community for 25 years. As one of the first faith leaders to fully recognize global warming as a moral issue, she mobilized thousands of religious people to put their faith into action through energy stewardship and advocacy. Carol (“Charlie”) Bowen is on the board of Berkeley Path Wanderers Association. Since its founding in 1997, Path Wanderers has improved 23 formerly impassable paths. Ms. Bowen is also on the board of Berkeley Partners for Parks, the fiscal sponsor of many citizen “greening” groups in Berkeley. Julian Dautremont-Smith is the associate director of AASHE, the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education. Sharon Delgado, an ordained United Methodist minister living in Nevada City, CA, is executive director of Earth Justice Ministries. Her latest book is Shaking the Gates of Hell: Faith-led Resistance to Corporate Globalization. Janet K. Dorman was trained by Roy Oswald as a facilitator for Community of Practice. In addition to her 20 years of parish ministry and chaplaincy, she is currently interim pastor of New Spirit Community Church in Berkeley. Marijke Fakasiieiki (PSR MDiv 1998) is assistant director of the Northern California- Nevada Church World Service/CROP, which helps communities become conscious about global issues. Brian M. Ferguson is a third-year MDiv student at Starr King School for the Ministry in Berkeley. Before becoming a seminary student, Brian spent 24 years as an electronic engineer and project manager. Eric Corey Freed is principal of organicARCHITECT, a San Francisco design and research firm with 15 years of experience in green building. He developed the sustainable design programs for the Academy of Art University and UC Berkeley. One of the founders of “ecoTECTURE: The Online Journal of Ecological Design,” Freed writes a monthly column for GreenerBuildings.com which is syndicated to over a dozen other publications. He is the author of Green Building for Dummies. Gwyn Kirk is a scholar-activist who has written widely on ecofeminism, militarism, and women’s peace organizing. Her current research focuses on organizing efforts to promote cleanup and healing from contamination caused by military operations and war. Katherine Kunz earned her MA in art and religion from the GTU and PSR. Her photoessay, “Benedictine Spirituality and the Land,” was recently published in the OCHRE Journal of Women’s Spirituality (www.ciis.edu/ochrejournal). Currently a staff member at PSR, Katherine’s creative work includes photography, dance, and personal storytelling. Deborah Lee is program director of the PANA Institute at Pacific School of Religion and coordinator of its Civil Liberty and Faith project.
Ray McGinnis is the designer and instructor of Write to Heart workshops. He has taught over 7,000 people in his poetry and journal writing workshops. Author of Writing the Sacred, he previously served as national staff for youth and young adult ministries in the United Church of Canada. Joyce Parry Moore completed her graduate studies in opera at the Boston Conservatory. After a decade of singing opera, oratorio, and new music on the East Coast, Joyce moved to Juneau, AL to begin her own touring opera company, Opera to GO! Joyce is now a firstyear MDiv student at PSR, and a postulant for holy orders in the Anglican tradition. Jeremy Nickel, a graduate of PSR and the GTU, is ministerial intern at the First Unitarian Universalist Society of San Francisco. He has spent much of the past five years organizing social justice events and working for the UUSC. Billie Nowabbi, a pastor since 1983, serves Dallas Indian United Methodist Church in Dallas, TX. A Choctaw active in ministries of justice and mercy, she chairs the Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference Board of Trustees and is a trustee for the UMC Mount Sequoyah Conference and Retreat Center in Arkansas. Billie’s congregation is a member of the Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference, which incorporates 89 local churches in Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas and relates to persons from 39 nations (tribes). William W. Rankin is the president and co-founder of the Global AIDS Interfaith Alliance, based in the Bay Area. From 1993 to 1998, he was president, dean, and Charles B. Wilson Professor of Christian Ethics at Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, MA. He later served as vice president of the United Religions Initiative. Renee Rico is the national coordinator for Presbyterians for Restoring Creation, a grassroots organization seeking to connect, equip, and inspire people to care for God’s creation. He worked for the Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, D.C. for 14 years. Hugo Steensma works with investors looking for companies that emphasize environmental, social, and return-on-investment criteria. He is on the board of Presidio School of Management, past chair of the UCC’s national Environmental Committee, and serves on the Earth Stewards Committee of his church in Sonoma. TREES is the GTU’s Theological Roundtable on Ecological Ethics and Spirituality. A student-based, inter-religious organization, TREES seeks to raise awareness of the issues that surround the ecological demise of the earth and focuses on raising awareness at the educational/philosophical and communal/bioregional levels. Eugene Tsui, an architect and author, designs and develops his work through the study of nature. His work is shown throughout the world. The author of four books, he was educated at Columbia University and the University of Oregon, and received his PhD at UC Berkeley. Philip (“Skip”) Wenz is the founder and director of the Ecological Design Program at the San Francisco Institute of Architecture.
