<strong>PN</strong> Achievement<br />
Examination Descriptors<br />
The examinations consist of 125 four-option, multiple-choice questions. Twentyfive<br />
of these questions are <strong>for</strong> experimental purposes and are not included in the<br />
scoring. All achievement examinations are available in computer-based and paperbased<br />
test <strong>for</strong>mats.<br />
<strong>PN</strong> Fundamentals<br />
Assesses understanding of the fundamentals of nursing principles. Topics addressed<br />
include the selection of appropriate care measures, identification of nutritional<br />
requirements, principles of therapeutic communication, and utilization<br />
of the nursing process.<br />
Maternity Infant <strong>Nursing</strong><br />
Assesses understanding of nursing care of clients during pregnancy, labor and<br />
delivery; the postpartum period; and neonatal care. Includes relevant items on<br />
therapeutic communication, nutrition, and pharmacology.<br />
Child Health <strong>Nursing</strong><br />
Evaluates knowledge of the care of children, with an emphasis on normal<br />
growth and development. Items address children’s health promotion and the<br />
care of children of various ages who are experiencing common health problems.<br />
Includes question on communication, nutrition, and pharmacology.<br />
Adult Health <strong>Nursing</strong><br />
Assesses understanding of the care of adult clients who have common health alterations<br />
that require medical or surgical intervention. Includes items on communication,<br />
nutrition, and pharmacology.<br />
Mental Health Concepts<br />
Assesses understanding of the key principles of mental health and psychiatric<br />
nursing. Emphasis is on behavioral manifestations of well being and stress as<br />
exhibited <strong>by</strong> children and adults at various levels of wellness and in a variety of<br />
settings. Assesses knowledge of appropriate goals and interventions <strong>for</strong> clients<br />
and families experiencing illness or stress.<br />
