Water, gas and electricity bills are included in your rent,
so you don’t have to worry about paying extra for them.
Spread your payments
With University accommodation, you can pay your rent
in three instalments. And unlike most private landlords,
you don’t have to provide a UK guarantor.
Flexible contracts
Our standard contract is for 42 weeks, so you can go
home in the summer vacation if you like. If you prefer to
stay for a full year, there are 51 week contracts available.
Most private landlords only offer contracts for a full year.

We set this up for you. It’s included in your rent.
Free internet
Internet connection is included in your rent. It’s ready to
use when you arrive. You can access the University
network from your room.

The Endcliffe Village is home to
about 3,500 students, living
together in modern apartments,
houses and refurbished Victorian
mansions.
At the heart of the complex is The
Edge. This is where everyone meets
up in the evenings. There are social
events here every night of the week.
It’s a vibrant student community with

some studios suitable for couples,

The Ranmoor Village is in one of
Sheffield’s most popular suburbs.
Campus and the city centre are
just ten minutes away by bus. The
atmosphere is very relaxed. It’s a
close-knit community of 1,100
students from all over the world,
including undergraduates,
postgraduates and students with
families.
From international food evenings to
family events, the activities at Ranmoor
are organised by student
representatives. You can give them
your ideas for things you'd like to do,
visit or see. If you’d like to be more
involved, you could even be elected as a
student representative for the village.
You’ll be close to the lively student
areas of Broomhill and Ecclesall Road.
You’ll find shops there with everything
you need, as well as bars, cafés and
restaurants.

All our City and Central Campus
accommodation is in the area between
the city centre and campus. It’s very
close to the engineering departments,
the Management School, Computer
Science and others.
You don’t get as many organised social
events and services in the city as you do
in the Endcliffe or Ranmoor Villages. But
you do get the city’s shops, cafés and
restaurants all close by. If you prefer to
do your own thing, the city is for you.

Couples and families
All our accommodation for couples and
families is close to the University, shops
and good schools. Contracts are for a full
year and you can renew your contract
every year so you don’t have to move.
Postgraduates and mature
students
If you’re over 21 and you’d rather be with
students your own age, we can help with
that. We can also give you a longer
contract so you can stay here during the
holidays. Just let us know when you apply.
Students with special
requirements
We have rooms adapted for students
with special requirements. For instance,
if you have a hearing impairment you
might need special equipment to tell you
when there’s a fire drill. Whatever your
needs, let us know when you apply and
we’ll take it from there.

Food
There’s a wide variety of choice on campus
and in the Student Villages. There will be
plenty of chances to sample traditional British
food such as fish and chips, pie and peas and
Sunday lunch. As well as home cooked meals,
you can get sandwiches, Barista coffees,
smoothies and cakes. An eatwithUS card is a
great way to budget.
We provide for different religious and ethical
needs. There are halal and vegetarian options
and we support students during Ramadan.
We use fresh, local produce and we’re a
recognised Fairtrade University, which means
we’re committed to promoting Fairtrade.

Choosing catered
• Catered accommodation is ideal if you
don’t like to cook, don’t want to do much
food shopping and don’t want to budget
for the majority of meals.
• You’ll get a £43.40 weekly food and drink
contribution to spend in various cafés,
restaurants, food outlets and coffee
shops.
• The £43.40 is included in your rent so
there’s no extra to pay.
• You’ll get an eatwithUS card with £43.40
loaded onto it every week during term
time (vacations are not included).
• The weekly £43.40 covers the cost of your
breakfast and one other meal each day –
not all meals and snacks.
• If you don’t spend your £43.40 during the
week, it’ll be carried over.
• All catered rooms are in The Endcliffe
Village.
• You’ll have limited cooking facilities in
your accommodation. Kitchenettes
include a microwave for heating up
snacks but aren’t suitable for preparing
full meals.
Choosing self-catering
• There is no food or drink allowance
included in your rent.
• You’ll be budgeting for, buying and
cooking all your food yourself.
• You’ll have full kitchen facilities where you
live for cooking.
• For the days when you don’t want to cook,
you can load money onto an eatwithUS
card which you can spend on campus and
in the villages.

Types of room
Room with a shared
bathroom
Your room comes with a single bed,
wash basin, wardrobe, desk and
chair. You have access to shared
bathroom facilities and WC. There’s
also a kitchen or kitchenette with a
fridge, kettle and microwave.
En-suite
En-suite rooms come with their own
shower room and WC so you have
more privacy. You share a kitchen or
kitchenette and/or a living area with
your flatmates.
Deluxe
Deluxe rooms have their own shower
room and WC, extra space and a
larger bed. You share a kitchen and
living area with your flatmates.
Studio
Studios are self-contained. They have
their own kitchen facilities, living
area, double bed, two desks,
wardrobes and an en-suite shower
room and WC. Ideal if you’re a
student couple, or if you just want
more space to yourself.

If you are holding a conditional or unconditional offer to study
here and have accepted your place, you can apply for
accommodation online from March 2012 onwards at

Once we receive your application, we’ll send you an
acknowledgement email. If you’re an insurance offer holder,
postgraduate or visiting student, we’ll also email you a
confirmation slip as part of your acknowledgement – keep this
safe as you’ll need it later on.

When you have met the conditions of your accepted offer, UCAS
will automatically notify us of this and we will then process your
application for accommodation.
If you were an insurance offer holder, postgraduate or visiting
student, and want to apply to live in University accommodation,
you now need to send back the confirmation slip we sent you in
step 3 before we can process your application. Return the
confirmation slip by emailing

Once we have allocated you accommodation, we will email you
with details of which property you’ll be living in and how to view
your contract online. In order to accept your contract, you will
need to pay a holding deposit of £150.00 and set up a payment
plan for your rent. If you don’t accept your contract by the date
stated in your email, we will reallocate the room to someone else,
so remember to make a note of the date. Make sure the email
address that you provide is one you check regularly, so we have a
way of getting in touch with you.
From mid-July, we begin to
allocate accommodation.
Unconditional offer holders and
confirmed postgraduates who
meet the terms of our guarantee
are the first to be allocated.
OR
The largest number of allocations
take place in august when
applicants find out if they have
met conditions of their offer i.e.
after ‘a’ Level results.

Deposits and payment methods
When you accept your contract, we ask you to
pay a damage deposit of £150. This is held until
the end of your contract. Your rent is paid in
three instalments. The first instalment of rent will
be taken on 01 October 2012. For families, whose
contracts start in August, the first instalment of
rent will be taken on 31 August 2012.
Activities and events
There are lots of activities and events organised
to help you make friends and settle in. A small
subscription charge for these events is added to
your first instalment of rent.
Internet
Internet connection is free in all our
accommodation.
Codes of practice
All University-owned single-student
accommodation complies with the Universities UK
Code of Practice for the Management of Student
Housing. That means we have very clear policies
and procedures relating to health and safety,
maintenance, student welfare and other issues.
Opal 2 is managed in partnership with a private
landlord. Opal 2 is subject to the ANUK code, a
similar code for large private landlords.
