-59- GOD’S PLEDGE TO HEAR AND ANSWER PRAYER STUDY 8 Scripture Portion: 1 John 5:14-21 We find a most wonderful promise in - 1 John 5:14-15 - which tells us that it is possible for us to pray and not only get the things we for which we pray, but to know beforehand that our prayer is heard and answered. See how clear the promise is in these verses. Notice the following points. #1 - This promise is made to a particular class of people. 1 John 5:13 - If we are to come before God with confidence that He will hear and answer our prayer, we must be true believers, members of His family. Compare with - 1 John 5:1 - We must know the Lord and be known of Him. We must be Christians. #2 - This promise reminds us that prayer is necessary for the accomplishment of God’s will. There is an element of mystery here, but scripture teaches that there are some things that the Lord does only when His people pray. Ezekiel 36:37 - James 4:2 - If prayer is offered, God works.
