minister, poet and
Bishop of Calcutta,
Reginald Heber, just
one year before he
died in 1826 at the
age of 43. Notice the
descriptions of God
and the magnificent
picture of heavenly
worship around God’s
throne. As we join that

Prayer of Confession
Almighty God, with our lips we easily acknowledge that
you are Lord of all things. You are Lord of history, guiding
nations and rulers. You are Lord of the created world,
giving sun and rain and changing the seasons. And yet
we fail to recognize you as Lord of the small things that
concern us. We doubt your power over our jobs and
relationships. We question your interest in our illnesses
and heartaches. Forgive our small vision of who you are.
Remind us that all power, glory and honor belong to you.
Open our eyes that we might see your mighty hand at
work in this world and in our lives. Hear us now as we
continue our confession in silence . . .
