Don Livesay, president <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Lake</strong> <strong>Union</strong> <strong>Conference</strong>,<br />

added, “As the nominating Committee began its work, it became<br />

clear that Ted Wilson had very strong support from the<br />

world field. I believe that the diversity and magnitude <strong>of</strong> that<br />

support provides a significant opportunity to keep the World<br />

Church connected to North America under his leadership.”<br />

Jerome L. Davis, president <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Lake</strong> Region <strong>Conference</strong>,<br />

remarked, “Ted and I had the privilege <strong>of</strong> being classmates in<br />

college. He was one <strong>of</strong> the first persons to congratulate me<br />

when I was elected president <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Lake</strong> Region <strong>Conference</strong>.<br />

He is a godly man and will do well as G.C. president.”<br />

The <strong>General</strong> <strong>Conference</strong> Session, held every five years, was<br />

an international spiritual gathering and business session to<br />

elect leaders and vote on proposed changes to the Church<br />

Manual and Constitution.<br />

Some significant statements were also voted during the<br />

Session, including statements on global poverty, nurture<br />

and protection <strong>of</strong> children, ending violence against women<br />

and girls, freedom <strong>of</strong> speech and defamation <strong>of</strong> religion, and<br />

creation: the Bible’s worldview. Resolutions were also voted<br />

by the delegation in support <strong>of</strong> the Holy Bible and Spirit <strong>of</strong><br />
