Character<br />

A student who has received an in-school or out-of-school suspension, violated the law, or has been caught violating the<br />

Academic Code of Integrity cannot be eligible for induction on his/her first opportunity. The student will be considered for the<br />

next induction if he/she has not had any further violations.<br />

<br />

NO substantiated incidents of breaking school or community rules/laws.<br />

o Examples include:<br />

Cheating, fighting, out of school suspension, Wednesday school, skipping, etc.<br />

Students must select two separate qualities for character and provide a specific example(s) as to how they have met each<br />

of the character standards. BOTH examples must come from the school setting. The students must have each of the<br />

character standards they have selected verified by the school personnel. Students cannot use family members to verify this<br />

information.<br />

Under the <strong>National</strong> <strong>Honor</strong> <strong>Society</strong> guidelines a student is considered to have acceptable character standards if he/she exercises<br />

the following qualities: PICK TWO SEPARATE QUALITIES AND PLACE THE TITLE IN THE QUALITY BOX<br />

Takes criticism willingly and accepts recommendations graciously<br />

Consistently exemplifies desirable qualities of behavior<br />

Upholds principles of morality and ethics<br />

Cooperates by complying with school regulations concerning property, programs, office, halls, etc.<br />

Demonstrates the highest standards of honesty and reliability<br />

Shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others<br />

Follows the Academic Code of Integrity and all school rules<br />

Actively helps rid the school of bad influences<br />

Leadership<br />

Leadership Positions (minimum of 2)<br />

o Examples include:<br />

Team captain, club officer, committee chairperson, etc.<br />

Raised funds, increased membership, ran monthly meetings, etc.<br />

Character must be verified<br />

by an administrator.<br />

Students must select two separate qualities for leadership and provide a specific example(s) as to how they have met<br />

each of the leadership standards. NO more than one example can come from outside the school setting. The students must<br />

have each of the leadership standards they have selected verified by the school personnel, or, if using an example outside the<br />

school setting, an adult who can attest to these statements. Students cannot use family members to verify this information.<br />

Under the <strong>National</strong> <strong>Honor</strong> <strong>Society</strong> guidelines a student is considered to have acceptable leadership standards if he/she<br />

exercises the following qualities: PICK TWO SEPARATE QUALITIES AND PLACE THE TITLE IN THE QUALITY BOX<br />

Is resourceful in proposing new solutions to problems and making suggestions<br />

Exercises positive influence on peers in upholding school ideals<br />

Is able to delegate responsibilities<br />

Exemplifies positive attitudes<br />

Inspires positive behavior in others<br />

Demonstrates academic initiative<br />

Successfully holds school and/or community offices or positions of responsibility, conducts business efficiently and<br />

effectively and is reliable and dependable without prodding<br />

Demonstrates leadership in the classroom, at work, and in school or community activities<br />

Is dependable in any responsibility accepted
