More detail and regular updates of state data are available from PeriStats (marchofdimes.com/peristats), the March of Dimes online interactive data resource. State rankings can be a helpful tool for comparing states’ success in achieving their health care goals. In some cases, however, differences in rates or percentages are minor, which should be considered when interpreting these rankings. In addition, data from individual state sources may differ from those found in national databases. In particular, natality and infant death data reported by state vital statistics offices may differ from the National Center for Health Statistics information used in many of these state tables.
