The disaster in Haiti uncovered multiple<br />

gaps in delivery <strong>of</strong> medical care. Despite<br />

the tragedy that occurred there are lessons<br />

disasters. What lessons were learned from<br />

the standpoint <strong>of</strong> medical care delivery and<br />

the process <strong>of</strong> delivery will be discussed.<br />

outcome. The ability <strong>of</strong> the receiving hospital<br />

to be able to see the patient and to interact<br />

with the referring physicians aids in that<br />

management. A pediatric intensivist expert in<br />

transport and telemedicine will discuss what<br />

telemedicine has to <strong>of</strong>fer to patients and<br />

transport teams to improve care.<br />

General Course Information<br />

Course on Neonatal and Pediatric Critical Care Transport Medicine<br />

October 3-5, 2010 • San Francisco, CA<br />

Target Audience: Physicians, nurses, respiratory care<br />

practitioners, paramedics, administrators, policy makers,<br />

and other healthcare pr<strong>of</strong>essionals.<br />

Program Description: The Section on Transport<br />

Medicine is hosting the biennial Course on Neonatal and<br />

Pediatric Critical Care Transport Medicine in conjunction<br />

with its academic and scientific program.<br />

Through the Transport Course the Section assembles<br />

people from diverse regions, disciplines, and practice<br />

settings to learn and share their expertise in the<br />

challenging field <strong>of</strong> neonatal and pediatric transport<br />

medicine. The Conference will open with the Section’s<br />

scientific and academic program. The primary focus <strong>of</strong><br />

the plenaries will be the state <strong>of</strong> interfacility transport<br />

medicine in 2010. Abstracts on the latest neonatal and<br />

pediatric transport research will also be presented.<br />

Specialty trained transport teams develop unique skills<br />

for extending advanced care to patients during transfer.<br />

These teams working with specialized centers and<br />

referring pediatricians create a vital continuum <strong>of</strong> patient<br />

care and pediatric community education. The second day<br />

<strong>of</strong> the conference will include multiple aspects <strong>of</strong> neonatal<br />

and pediatric transport medicine. Highlights include a<br />

presentation on the science <strong>of</strong> sleep, a panel discussion<br />

on work hours, a session on what we learned from Haiti<br />

as it pertains to disaster preparedness, and a breakout on<br />

difficult airway simulation.<br />

The final day <strong>of</strong> the conference will <strong>of</strong>fer a plenary on<br />

telemedicine in 2010, another plenary on team training,<br />

and day two <strong>of</strong> lively breakout sessions.<br />

Program Objective: The 2010 Course on Neonatal and<br />

Pediatric Critical Care Transport Medicine & Section<br />

Program covers two half days and one entire day<br />

highlighting the latest advances in transport medicine.<br />

It addresses the latest clinical issues regarding the<br />

care <strong>of</strong> transport patients as well as the administration,<br />

planning, and delivery <strong>of</strong> pediatric inter-facility transport.<br />

Participants will also have a great opportunity to network<br />

with other transport teams.<br />

The <strong>American</strong> <strong>Academy</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Pediatrics</strong> (AAP) is accredited<br />

by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical<br />

Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical<br />

education for physicians.<br />

The AAP designates this educational activity for a<br />

maximum <strong>of</strong> 53.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.<br />

Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with<br />

the extent <strong>of</strong> their participation in the activity.<br />

This activity is acceptable for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 53.5 AAP<br />
