Industrial, institutional, structural, and healthrelated<br />

pest control certification shall be<br />

divided into the following subcategories:<br />

7a Structural pest control covers the use <strong>of</strong><br />

pesticides to control general pests and wooddestroying<br />

organisms by all means other than<br />

fumigation.<br />

7b Integrated pest management covers an<br />

environmentally- sound approach to pest<br />

management in schools and health care<br />

facilities with the goal <strong>of</strong> the judicious use <strong>of</strong><br />

pesticides.<br />

7c Structural fumigation covers the use <strong>of</strong><br />

pesticides in the form <strong>of</strong> poisonous gases.<br />

Category 8. Public health pest control – for<br />

state, federal, or other government employees<br />

using pesticides in management and control <strong>of</strong><br />

pests in public health programs.<br />

Category 9. Regulatory pest control - for<br />

state, federal, or other government employees<br />

who apply pesticides to control regulated pests.<br />

Category 10. Demonstration and research<br />

pest control – those who demonstrate to the<br />

public the proper uses and techniques <strong>of</strong><br />

applying pesticides. Includes extension<br />

specialists and agents, individuals<br />

demonstrating methods used in public<br />

programs, and persons conducting field<br />

research with pesticides, and in so doing, apply<br />

or supervise the application <strong>of</strong> pesticides. This<br />

group includes state and federal employees and<br />

other persons conducting field research on<br />

pesticides.<br />

Category 11 – Aerial applicator - applying<br />

pesticides to lands <strong>of</strong> another using aircraft.<br />

Category 12 - Pesticide sales agent – persons<br />

who sell or distribute restricted use pesticides<br />

or any individuals who sell and makes<br />

recommendations for the use and application<br />

<strong>of</strong> pesticides to the final user. Persons taking<br />

orders or explaining service programs without<br />

naming or making recommendations shall be<br />

excluded from certification, if the person<br />

selling or distributing pesticides is licensed as<br />

a pesticide sales agent.<br />

Category 13 - Antifouling marine paint –<br />

applying paint mixed with a pesticide to<br />

prevent the growth <strong>of</strong> pests, both plant and<br />

animal, to a product to be used in lakes, rivers,<br />

and waterways.<br />

Category 14 - Pest control consultant -<br />

persons, who for a fee, <strong>of</strong>fer or supply<br />

technical advice, supervision, or aid, or<br />

recommend the use <strong>of</strong> specific pesticides for<br />

the purpose <strong>of</strong> controlling insect pest, plant<br />

diseases, weeds, and other pests.<br />

Category 15. Antimicrobial pest control -<br />

applying pesticides to control bacteria, mold,<br />

or fungi to or through any medium. Water and<br />

waste water treatment plant operators shall be<br />

included in this category. Homeowners<br />

applying pesticides to personal swimming<br />

pools, and persons certified in Category 1 <strong>of</strong><br />

this chapter are excluded from this category.<br />

Category 16. Sewer root control - applying<br />

pesticides into the sewer or sewer system to<br />

control the ingress <strong>of</strong> roots or any other<br />

blockage <strong>of</strong> the system.<br />

Category 17. Wood preservatives - applying<br />

pesticides to wood and wood products to<br />

protect from wood-destroying organisms.<br />

Excluded from this category are persons<br />

engaged in structural pest control.<br />

Category 18. Golf course pest control -<br />

applying pesticides or fertilizer to land on<br />

which turf and ornamental care is done for the<br />

purpose <strong>of</strong> preparing the land for use in the<br />

game <strong>of</strong> golf.<br />

Category 19. Interior Plantscape Pest<br />

Control - using pesticides to control insects,<br />

weeds, and diseases in or on interior<br />

plantscapes, regardless <strong>of</strong> who owns the plants.<br />

Category 20 Sports turf pest control -<br />

applying pesticides to control insects, weeds,<br />

and diseases to or on turf on which sports<br />

activities occur. Certification in this category<br />

does not qualify an applicator to make<br />

applications to golf courses.<br />
