GOAL STATEMENT
In order to improve special education student achievement in science, each teacher will have sufficient
equipment to meet the standard of 20% instructional time spent in lab activities and meet grade/course
curriculum standards.
In order to improve student achievement in mathematics, each student will be provided with a calculator with
appropriate grade/course level technology.
USDOE Goals
Justification
College- & Career-
Ready Preparation
(including programs for
ELL & SPED students)
The skills necessary for college and careers include the ability to be able to use
math skills in a variety of daily activities in a personal and work place setting.
Students training and practice on grade level appropriate calculators in grades 3-12
will assist in preparing students for the future. Through scientific inquiry and using
21st century lab equipment, science students will be able to transfer knowledge to
specific educational and or job settings in the future.
GOALS &
JUSTIFICATION
Data-Driven Programs
or Processes to track
progress & foster
& Equitable
Distribution of Highly
Qualified Teachers
Intensive Support &
Effective Interventions
Adequately equipped science labs and age/ability level calculators will enable
instruction and learning to target the SLEs required by the ADE as well as prepare
our students for state mandated testing and prepare students for college or the work
place.
IMPLEMENTATION
PLAN
(Detailed Steps)
Once approval is received, materials and supplies will be ordered. A thorough accounting and labeling of
inventory will be completed before items are distributed to the proper buildings and classrooms. Batteries
needed for equipment requiring them will be the responsibility of each campus.
Students in third and fourth grade will be provided TI-108 calculators for use while in the classroom. Fifth
and sixth grade students will be provided a calculator for use in resouce and self-contained settings as well as
for check out use for homework. Calculators for math students in grades 7-12 will be issued in the same
manner in which textbooks are with the addition of an Equipment Use Agreement for students and parents to
sign and return in order to receive the calculator for home/school use. Teachers will conduct periodic checks
throughout the year to assure proper care is taken with student calculator use.
Calculator training for 7-12 math teachers will be provided by our four 7-12 Math Staff Development
Instructional Leaders. These individuals will receive their training from the company who provides the
calculators.

The 2009 Benchmark and Alternative Portfolio scores for grades 3-8, End of Course Math and Biology, will
serve as a base line for academic achievement. Scores from these exams in 2010 and 2011 will be analyzed
to determine areas of increasd achievement.
EVALUATION
PLAN
Data from administrative classroom walk-throughs will assess use of equipment to enhance instruction in
both math and science.
Data to compare enrollment in higher level math and science courses will also assist us in evaluating the
success of the implementation of the additional materials/supplies in the areas of math and science.
