“Education is the manifestation of perfection that is
already in man - Swami Vivekananda.
Literacy is to learn to read, write and to understand what
we read and write. So there is a lot of difference between
education and Literacy.

Education is that which leads us towards freedom,
freedom from miseries of life and unites us with the eternal.
Upanishads tell us that there are two kinds of education
‘Paraa (Vidya) and Aparaa (Avidya) ’.

Vidya and Avidya (worldly knowledge which is necessary
to earn a living,) when learnt side by side, will make a wonderful
combination. Overcome death
through physical sciences(avidya)
and attain higher consciousness
(immortality) through spiritual
sciences. Balance in both will make
life glorifying.
Imbalance in the material and
spiritual sciences proves harmful for
mankind where as both practised
together will lead to extreme kind of
happiness, which is the aim of every
human being.
One who devotes only to
physical sciences (avidya,aparaa
vidya) falls into blinding darkness.
End of education is character and
education (Vidya) starts where the science ends.
This is what even Vedas preach. Vedas teach us the way of
life. Swami Dayananda Saraswati terms Vedas as the “Treasures
of Knowledge.”
One of the important messages of Vedas is ßeuqHkZoÞ–“Be
human”. This is infact the most important, relevant message for
the present generation where animalistic views are overtaking
the humanistic views and behaviours. Hence the study of Vedas
and practice of Vedic way of life is utmost necessary to create
postive vibrations in the environment thereby aiming for a
better, strong and bright future for the coming generations
which in turn would keep the society peaceful and bring back
the lost glory of this great country which has been preaching
world peace.
