Parents: The Bond Election is June 25, 2013
June!
After listening to voter feedback following the September election, the district lowered the cost of the bond
referendum by $10 million; down from $51 million to $41 million. We also listened to what you had to say
about the design of the proposed new high school. The building is now a two-story structure with less open
space and more square footage in classrooms. Finally, the district is committed to providing parents and all
district newsletter in late March and two large postcards about different bond-related projects. You can also find

Please mark your calendars now and plan to vote in this important district election on June 25, 2013. Two
elementaries, JMS, and JHS are facing overcrowding issues that cannot be fixed with building additions. The
projects proposed in the bond referendum represent permanent solutions to our crowded buildings.
We encourage you to attend a public information meeting on the bond. The next meeting will be on Monday,
April 29 at the Meredith Drive Reformed Church (5128 Meredith Drive, Des Moines) at 6:30 p.m. Other
meetings will be on May 15 at Johnston Middle School at 6:30 p.m.; May 30 at the Johnston Public Library at 6
p.m.; and June 11 at Summit Middle School at 6 p.m.
