school hall. At the meeting all positions will be declared vacant. It is extremely
Zone Field Events, 800m Heats and Track Events
On Wednesday 22 August, 15 Galston students attended the Beecroft Zone Field Events and 800m
Heats Carnival at Cherrybrook. On the day we had a number of students who were successful in
their events. We have two students who will represent Beecroft Zone at the Sydney North Athletics
Carnival on the 10 September.
Nicholas Thomson had a fantastic day coming first in the Junior Long Jump and Junior Shot Put.
Nicholas also attended the Discus competition the previous day where he came second. Zachary
Jamieson came second in the 11 years Long Jump. Zachary also attended the Discus competition,
where came first in the 11 years Discus. We wish Nicholas and Zachary good luck for the Area
Carnival and we’re sure they will represent our zone and school with pride.
We had a number of other students who had excellent results on the day. Brennan Smith competed
in the Senior High Jump where he finished third. Callum Trethowan qualified in the 800m Heats to
run in the final at the Track Carnival.
A large group of Galston students attended the Zone Track competition on Wednesday 29 August at
Greenway Park. It was a great day and all students participated enthusiastically and did their personal
best. A big congratulations to all the students who attended their first Zone Competition, you did a
great job. It was a pleasure to take this group of students to the carnival. They participated keenly
and behaved beautifully. Well done!
Parent Helpers
It has been wonderful to witness the number of parent helpers in the school, especially in classrooms.
This assistance is greatly appreciated by teachers and certainly assists students with their learning. It is
also extremely beneficial for students to see mum or dad helping in the classroom, as it demonstrates
that education is valued. Thank you to all parents who assist in the school, whether it is in the
classroom, canteen, uniform shop or P&C. We greatly appreciate that you give up your time to help.
Please remember, prior to assisting with a school activity, all parent helpers need to complete the
sign-on book in the office. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.
SRC
As part of our fundraising commitments, the SRC is supporting the Jeans for Genes Foundation. On
Friday 21 September (last day of term) the students will be able to wear jeans and a football shirt
(any code). The students have been asked to contribute a gold coin donation. Thank you in
anticipation of your support.
Fathers Day Stall
Last week our annual Fathers Day stall was held. The stall proved to be extremely
successful and we hope that all of the Galston dads enjoyed opening their gifts on
Fathers Day. Thank you to Michelle Vumbaca for coordinating this event and to the
volunteers who assisted.
Cybersmart Workshops
All permission notes to participate in the Cybersmart workshops were due on Monday 3
September. Unfortunately, any child in Years 3-6 who has not returned his/her
permission note, will not be able to attend the workshops. The parent information
sessions will be held in the school library, commencing at 6.00pm.
Galston Public School Business Directory – 3 rd Edition
It is very exciting that the Business Directory for 2013 will be our school’s third edition. For new
parents and families to our school, this is a wonderful ready reference of businesses directly
associated with our school.
If you, or a relative, are involved in a business or money making hobby please consider taking out an
advertisement in our booklet. This will let others know of the vast array of skills and talents that we
have right here and also promote your activity to the wider community. Our school is growing all
the time and we are sure there are many new connections that we could make through this
document. We have deliberately kept the prices the same as the first Directory in the hope of
making it as affordable as possible and encouraging new listings. A half page ad is very reasonably
priced at $50.00. Further details are included later in this newsletter.
Bendigo Bank 10th Birthday Celebration
On Sunday 7 October Bendigo Bank will be hosting a 10 th birthday
celebration at Galston High School. Part of the celebration will be a Children
of Galston District display. Bendigo Bank has invited all Year 3 to Year 6
children to complete a project on the theme: ‘Why Bendigo Bank is
important to the Galston & District Community’.
A note was sent home earlier this term containing the instructions to complete the project. All
completed projects need to be returned to your child’s teacher by Monday 17 September 2012.
Please ensure that you support this event, as Bendigo Bank regularly donates money to the Galston
Community, especially Galston Public School. These funds ensure that students are provided with the
many additional facilities and equipment that are necessary in modern education.
P & C
Election Day BBQ
On Saturday 8th September we are holding an Election Day BBQ and Cake Stall. The BBQ will run
from approximately 8.30am and finish at approximately 2pm. We are seeking helpers to man the
BBQ and Cake Stall. If you are able to help please email admirebuildptyltd@bigpond.com or phone
Michelle on 0409 686 611. If you are able to supply some goodies for the cake stall, please let
Michelle know so that we can make sure we have enough for the stall. All funds raised from the BBQ
and stall go back into the school. Without P & C fundraising the school would not have many of the
items that it does, so please help support the school by helping out or providing something for the
cake stall. Every little bit counts.
P & C Message to All Parents
Every September the P & C holds its AGM. All positions will be open for nomination. As some of the
current committee members have been in their positions for 2 or 3 years, we would like some new
parents to start thinking about the contribution they could make to our school. At the moment, the
students have the benefit of a P & C that is willing to provide all those extra events and resources but
the tables can turn very quickly without ongoing parental support.
A list of positions appears below. No experience is necessary for any position and you would have
the full support of the current members while you find your feet. Don’t think you aren’t up to the
job! It unleashes your hidden talents! There are many, many reasons to take on a committee position
including friendships, teamwork, satisfaction and most importantly, being a great role model for your
kids. You’d be surprised how proud the children are when their parents are helping out!
If you can’t take on a committee position, offer to help wherever you can. If we call for disco or
athletics carnival helpers, please be generous with a couple of hours of your time. Those same old
helpers will not be around forever so we need enthusiastic volunteers to continue the P & C’s great
work.
will do so honourably to maintain their good name in the business community and to maintain and
promote the good name of Galston Public School by association.
Looking forward to a fabulous and really helpful document!
