Water Treatment Products
Des Ryan Solutions stock a range of water conditioners including pH
Correction Units, Sand/Turbidity Filters, Activated Carbon Filters, Hydrogen
Sulphide Removal & Nitrate Removal Filters. These Water Conditioners are
available in varying sizes depending on the application and with or without
Backwashing Controllers.
Des Ryan Solutions stock an extensive range of filter housings & filter
cartridges for various applications. Filters available for sand, sediment,
clay, taste & odours, bacteria, rust etc. They are available in disposable and
washable cartridges from 5 to 150 microns.
A self-cleaning water filter will save you time and money that would otherwise
be spent cleaning and replacing cartridges. Rinsing lasts only 4-15 seconds
and uses less than 5 litres of water without interrupting the main flow. Self
Cleaning Filters are available in Automatic and Manual and can filter to 60
microns.
Ultraviolet water disinfection is a treatment of drinking water that
uses ultraviolet radiations in order to inactivate microorganisms. The
Sterilight Silver Series is ideally suited for point of use water treatment
to kill bacteria including coliform and e.coli, viruses, cryptosporidium,
giardia, and a wide range of other microbiological contaminants.
The very successful 5-stage under sink reverse osmosis system comes
with or without a pressurizing feed pump. This system will remove
lead, fluoride, nitrate and bacteria. It is important to remember, if the
feed pressure is poor, always look for the pump option.
Under sink water filters are typically used where cabinet space is available under
the kitchen sink and a permanent installation is desired. The Everpure drinking
water system removes 99.9% of potential tap water contaminants and removes
all off-tastes & odours. It is independently Tested and Certified by the National
Sceince Federation (NSF). It also comes with its own independent faucet.
Our suppliers stock only the highest grade water conditioning resins for
applications such as Water Softening, Iron/Manganese removal, Nitrate
removal, Taste & Odour removal, Organic removal, Turbidity Filtration,
Tannin removal and pH Correction.
The idea behind a water softener is simple. The calcium and magn
The idea behind a water softener is simple. The calcium and magnesium ions in the water
are replaced with sodium ions. Since sodium does not precipitate out in pipes or react badly
with soap, both of the problems of hard water are eliminated. To do the ion replacement,
the water in the house runs through a bed of small plastic beads or through a chemical
this point they stop softening the water. It is then time to regenerate the beads or zeolite.
Regeneration involves soaking the beads or zeolite in a stream of sodium ions. Salt is
sodium chloride, so the water softener mixes up a very strong brine solution and flushes
it through the zeolite or beads (this is why you load up a water softener with salt). The
strong brine displaces all of the calcium and magnesium that has built up in the zeolite or
Iron / Manganese Removal
Iron and Manganese are commonly found in Irish groundwater.
Next to hardness, the presence of iron is probably the most
common water problem faced by consumers in Ireland.
Clothing washed in water containing excessive iron may
become stained a brownish colour. The taste of beverages,
such as tea and coffee, may also be affected by iron. Manganese
produces a brownish colour in laundered clothing, leaves
black particles on fixtures and as with iron, affects the taste
of beverages, including coffee and tea. Over the years our
suppliers have developed effective and inexpensive methods
of Iron/Manganese Removal and below we have outlined these
options:
Option 1:
Ion Exchange using Crystal Right
Crystal Right works by an ion exchange process, which removes iron, manganese
and hardness. The minimum pH requirement is 6.0 and Crystal Right will raise
the pH in these acidic waters. Crystal Right works at its best on clear water,
i.e. when the iron/manganese are in a dissolved form. Crystal Right will also
remove hardness with no extra treatment. The media bed can be sanitised with
chlorine from time to time. The regeneration process is exactly the same as
that used in a water softener and requires regeneration with salt. There are two
types of Crystal Right. CR100 is used where the pH is between 6 and 7 and will
increase the pH. CR200 is used where the pH is 7 or above. Crystal Right has a
number of advantages over conventional systems in that pH correction, iron/
manganese removal and softening can all be addressed in a single process.
Option 2:
Oxidation & Vortech Filtration
Filox & Birm Sand are relatively inexpensive materials which can be used for iron
and manganese removal by oxidation. Both media act as a catalyst to promote
the reaction between the oxygen and iron dissolved in the water. No chemical
regeneration and therefore need never be replaced. Since the Filox/Birm media
are so dense and heavy, higher & more regular backwash rates are required to
clean the media. Filox may be used within the 5.0 - 9.0 pH range where as to use
Birm a pH of 6.8 is required.
