<strong>Southern</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>Law</strong> <strong>Center</strong> offers an affordable, quality legal education in comparison with other law schools. Rooms are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, regardless of classification. Interested students should contact the Director of Housing for more information (225-771-3590 or 1-800-432- 5899). Students who elect to live off-campus can find suitable living accommodations in apartments and houses located throughout the city of Baton Rouge. Meal Plans Students living on campus in university dormitories are required to purchase a meal card. The <strong>University</strong> offers a seven-day meal plan. A meal plan specifically designed for students who live off campus is also available. Under this plan, meal cards may be purchased on a prorated basis. Students who desire to participate in a meal plan should contact Campus Dining (225-771-2363). Tuition for full-time Louisiana residents is approximately $7,500 per year. Fees and tuition for out-of-state students are about $12,000 per year. Living allowances, books, supplies, transportation, and miscellaneous expenses should be considered when determining total cost. Part-time day fees range from approximately $1,700 to $2,400. Part-time evening fees range from approximately $2,900 to $3,300. Tuition is subject to change. Expenses Each student is expected to obtain his or her own casebooks and other course materials. The approximate cost of required materials for a law student is $1,000 per semester. It is recommended that before purchasing books and supplies, students inquire about recent changes in course offerings to ensure proper selection of textbooks and other study materials to be used in the courses. The cost of living for a single, independent student living off campus is approximately $12,000 per semester. While lifestyles vary, this cost estimate includes relevant expenses for housing, food, transportation, and moderate entertainment. Health Care The <strong>University</strong> maintains a Student Health <strong>Center</strong> staffed by three physicians, three registered nurses and four LPNs. The Health <strong>Center</strong> provides health care for noncritical illnesses and injuries during the academic year, but not during vacation or holiday periods. Hours are from 8 a.m. to midnight Monday-Friday (schedule subject to change). The <strong>University</strong> provides a student accident and health insurance plan for students attending school on a full-time and part-time basis. The plan offers 24-hour coverage for accidents and illnesses occurring during each semester. The cost of this service is included in comprehensive general fees. Information concerning the student accident and health insurance plan may be obtained by contacting the Student Health <strong>Center</strong> (225-771-4770) or the Office of Student Affairs (225-771-3922). Automobile Registration and Parking Motor vehicles (including motorcycles) operated by <strong>Law</strong> <strong>Center</strong> students on the <strong>Southern</strong> <strong>University</strong> Baton Rouge Campus must be registered. The <strong>University</strong> requires all students to register their vehicles, regardless of ownership. The student vehicle registration fee is $25 for the academic year. Housing Limited dormitory accommodations are available for law students on the <strong>Southern</strong> <strong>University</strong> campus. Since there are no designated dormitories for law students, the Housing office assigns law students to dormitories housing seniors and other mature students. Dormitory rooms are designed to accommodate two students per room. All students desiring to live in campus housing are required to submit an application to the Housing office, in addition to a security deposit of $50. Parking spaces are available for law students in parking areas west of the <strong>Law</strong> <strong>Center</strong> and also on the east and west side of the A.W. Mumford Stadium. Vehicles illegally parked will be removed by Campus Police at the owner’s expense. Refund of Tuition & Fees Policy Academic fees are refunded as follows: 1. The General Fee, which includes student-assessed fees and nonresident fees, is refundable in accordance with the following schedule when a student resigns from the <strong>Law</strong> <strong>Center</strong> after completing the registration process: a. before classes begin, 90 percent; b. during the first 17 days of classes (first seven days in summer session), 75 percent; <strong>Southern</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>Law</strong> <strong>Center</strong> 2008-2010 Catalog 17
