In the event that a change in the traditional schedule is made in accordance with this<br />

contract, the total of prep time scheduled during the normal five day school week shall be in<br />

proportion to scheduled teaching time as follows:<br />

a. For elementary teachers (K-5) including special education and other teachers not<br />

assigned as grade level teachers, one (1) unit of prep time to seven (7) units of<br />

teaching time.<br />

b. For secondary teachers (6-12) teaching mathematics, science, world languages,<br />

English, business, or social studies, one (1) unit of prep time to five (5) units of<br />

teaching time.<br />

c. For all other secondary teachers (6-12), one (1) unit of prep time to six (6) units of<br />

teaching time.<br />

In the event that a preparation period is lost for any reason other than an emergency<br />

closing following the opening of school, the teacher will be compensated according to the<br />

rates set forth in the applicable Schedule B, Level XII. A preparation period that is<br />

reduced in length pursuant to paragraph 9 of this section shall not be subject to such<br />

compensation requirement.<br />

3. Instructional time: Instructional time during the normal school day shall not exceed the<br />

following maximums unless a change is made in the traditional schedule.<br />

a. Elementary teachers (K-5) shall not be scheduled to teach more than 287 minutes<br />

during the normal school day.<br />

b. Secondary teachers (6-12) teaching mathematics, science, world languages, English,<br />

business, or social studies shall not be scheduled to teach more than 210 minutes<br />

during the normal school day.<br />

c. All other secondary teachers (6-12) shall not be scheduled to teach more than 252<br />

minutes during the normal school day.<br />

In the event that a change in the traditional schedule is made in accordance with this<br />

contract, instructional time during the normal school day shall not exceed the following<br />

maximums:<br />

d. Elementary teachers (K-5) shall not be scheduled to teach more than 287 minutes<br />

during the normal school day.<br />

e. Secondary teachers (6-12) teaching mathematics, science, world languages, English,<br />

business, or social studies shall not be scheduled to teach more than 270 minutes<br />

during the normal school day, not more than an average of 225 minutes per day<br />

during a school year.<br />

f. All other secondary teachers (6-12) shall not be scheduled to teach more than 270<br />

minutes during the normal school day.<br />
