He was diagnosed just shortly after his third birthday in 2002. He turned eight years old on April 5 th , 2007. At the time he was diagnosed it was thought that I would be lucky to have him for a year. And he did deteriorate very quickly. However, a friend told me about Gold Bead Implantation. The pieces fell into place and another friend and I drove him to Dr. Terry Durkes in Marion, Indiana, who had developed the procedure – my friend and I are still speaking by the way. He was in very bad shape by the time we arrived in November 2002, and I don’t believe would have been alive much past Christmas of that year. Since he’s still with us, it is apparent that the procedure was successful. I do owe his life to Dr. Durkes. However, I also owe his life to both Dr. Steve Marsden and Dr. Lloyd Abbey. For without their ongoing support and treatments, he would not have continued to do as well as he has. I am so grateful to all of them every day that I still have my boy – even as much of a jerk as he is sometimes. Just a quick closing note – if you notice that he’s not all that stable on his rear today, it’s not due to the Wobblers. The fool was jacking around on the ice with the puppy in February, and sprained both his knees – recovery has been slow, but he is coming along.
