Benchmark study
• Comparison of the environmental burden of a number of
professional textile cleaning technologies with that of
domestic laundering.
• The comparison was executed by TNO, an independent
Dutch research institute, and TKT .
• Last year the comparison was performed with HCS, perc
and professional wet cleaning. In 2011-2012, the
comparison was expanded to other cleaning technologies
Benchmark study
Procedure :
Comparing the different aspects of environmental
burden is like comparing apples and oranges.
To solve this problem, the method of the shadow
costs (in €) for all environmental aspects included is
applied.
Simapro software and databases, designed for this
type of analysis, were used.
The input is based on experimental results (e.g.
energy consumption) and literature data.
Conclusion
The environmental burden of domestic laundering is
up to 2-3 times higher that the environmental
burden of professional textile cleaning.
Wash & Load
Goal :
- The development of a modular and multifunctional
refuntionalisation system for the textile service industry:
- Multifunctional textile products
- Refunctionalisation processes for these textile products
- Measuring methods to analyse these functionalities
- Business model
