PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Brothers of Alpha Phi Delta,
I would like to take this opportunity to
thank each and every one of you for the
vote of confidence that you have bestowed
upon me as the next President of Alpha
Phi Delta. I am deeply humbled by this
vote of confidence and will assure you that
I will give it my all to lead you. Never in my
wildest dreams did I ever think that one
day I would have the opportunity to lead
you.
Many years ago when I pledged Alpha
Phi Delta, Past National President Joe
Crestontaught me about the three words
that we all live by; Love, Respect, and
Humility. Love is what we all have for one
another and our families. Respect is for all
human existence, especially brother to
brother. Humility by the mere definition
means one who is humble. It is these three
words that I hold close to my heart and
will use as the corner stone of my presidency.
Permit me to share a little analogy that I
use with my students every fall at the start
of school. It is titled “The Sense of a
Goose.”
In the fall when you see geese heading
south for the winter along in “V” formation,
you might be interested in knowing
what science has discovered about why

they fly that way. It has been learned that as each bird flaps its
wings, it creates uplift for the bird immediately following. By flying
in a “V” formation, the whole flock adds at least 71% greater
flying range that if each bird flew on it’s on.
(Brothers who share a common direction and sense of community
can get where they are going quicker and easier, because
they are traveling on the trust of one another.)

from 1974–1976. He was also the oldest
brother at the summer convention having
pledged in 1946.
Whenever a goose falls out of formation,
it suddenly feels the drag and resistance
of trying to go it alone, and quickly
gets back into formation to take advantage
of the lifting power of the bird immediately
in front.
(If we have a sense of a goose, we will
stay in formation with those who are headed
in the same direction we are going.)
When the lead goose gets tired, he rotates
back in the wing and another flies point.
(It pays to take turns doing hard jobs with
the brothers or with geese flying south.)
The geese honk from behind to encourage
those up front to keep up their speed.

from behind)
Finally, when a goose gets sick or is
wounded and falls out, two geese fall out
of formation and follow him down to help
and protect him. They stay with him until
he is either able to fly or until he has
passed, and then they launch out on their
own or with another formation to catch
up with their group.
I believe that if we have a sense of
goose, we will stand by each other and
great things will happen to Alpha Phi
Delta.
In closing, I would like to say a special
Thank You to Evan Sottosanti for an outstanding
job as President for the past 2 1/2 years. It was with great
honor that we were able to serve under you.
