One tactic was to hire doctors to lecture other practitioners about a drug. The reps weren’t interested in what the audience took from the talk, but in the effects on the speaker himself. They found that after giving an address about a drug’s benefits, the speaker would begin to believe his own speech and prescribe accordingly. n http://bit.ly/pharmapost Hospital Network n Texting compliance o We are re-looking at texting communication with health care providers such as texting of orders by physicians to nurses on private cell phones. I am against this for several reasons; however, our physicians feel this is an evolving and convenient form of communication. Is there anyone who is willing to share how you are handling this issue, and any policies that address this form of communication Thank you. n http://bit.ly/textinghc HIPAA: Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act Forum n Elevator Incident o An elevator closed early and struck a patient. There is a video of the incident and the elevator repair company would like to review this. No audio and no other PHI is available—only the image of the patient. Is it permissible to allow the repair company to view the video as long as the patient is not identified in any other manner My gut says yes, but I have some doubt...
