Celebration of Winter, Perisher<br />

Perisher kicks off the ski season with a party.<br />

Saturday morning sees the traditional ‘Blessing<br />

of the Snow’, and later, indigenous dancers<br />

welcome the season. For the rest of the<br />

weekend there’s an entertainment program<br />

designed <strong>to</strong> please visi<strong>to</strong>rs of all ages.<br />

SNOWYfest<br />

International Film Festival, Thredbo<br />

The annual SNOWYfest is held on the second<br />

weekend of the ski season. Activity on the<br />

slopes is matched with big-screen action, and<br />

the program is packed with short films and<br />

feature length movies from around the world.<br />

September<br />

Annual Celebration of Mo<strong>to</strong>r Cycles<br />

The Annual Celebration of Mo<strong>to</strong>rcycles has<br />

displays, test rides, a short film competition<br />

and stalls selling mo<strong>to</strong>rcycle goods. There<br />

is entertainment all day and night. The<br />

weekend helps <strong>to</strong> promote bike <strong>to</strong>uring of<br />

the Bombala region. To date, the event<br />

has helped raise $70,000 for the Bombala<br />

Hospital’s nursing care unit as well as much<br />

needed new equipment.<br />

Perisher Blue Spring Carnival<br />

September brings the great spring snow<br />

Perisher Blue is famous for. As well as a host<br />

of fun-filled and entertaining <strong>events</strong> in the<br />

resort, such as live music daily, art exhibitions,<br />

<strong>guide</strong>d snow-shoe walks, buskers, clowns, a<br />

jumping castle, fireworks, night snowtubing,<br />

movies under the stars and outdoor BBQs.<br />

Oc<strong>to</strong>ber<br />

Apple Blossom Festival, Batlow<br />

While the orchards are fes<strong>to</strong>oned with blossom,<br />

this arts festival celebrates the beauty of the<br />

Batlow countryside and honours the mountain<br />

<strong>to</strong>wnship’s famous apples.<br />

<strong>Snowy</strong> <strong>Mountains</strong> Trout Challenge<br />

The Celebrity Trout Challenge takes place<br />

annually over the Oc<strong>to</strong>ber Labour Day<br />

long weekend. Held on Lake Jindabyne, the<br />

challenge involves two experienced anglers<br />

who take a range of celebrities aboard their<br />

vessels <strong>to</strong> ‘fish’ for the largest catch. The event<br />

attracts more than 500 specta<strong>to</strong>rs.<br />

November<br />

<strong>Snowy</strong> River Festival and <strong>Snowy</strong><br />

<strong>Mountains</strong> Regional Food Fair, Dalgety<br />

The event features all the key attributes of<br />

<strong>Snowy</strong> River bush heritage - s<strong>to</strong>ckman’s relays,<br />

bush dances, dog high-jump competitions<br />

wood chopping, horse-shoeing, saddle- and<br />

whip-making, brumby catching – paired with<br />

country cooking, bush tucker, food stalls and<br />

craft markets.<br />

<strong>Snowy</strong> <strong>Mountains</strong> Trout Festival<br />

Running over seven days, the annual<br />

<strong>Snowy</strong> <strong>Mountains</strong> Trout Festival attracts<br />

the participation of more than 500 fishing<br />

enthusiasts. A range of categories are available<br />

for entrants, including fly, bait, trolling, spinning<br />

and the overall largest and heaviest catch. Prize<br />

pool includes a daily $1000 cash prize and a<br />

range of Yamaha jet-powered marine products.<br />

<strong>Snowy</strong> Ride, The Alpine Way<br />

The <strong>Snowy</strong> Ride is an annual mo<strong>to</strong>rcycle<br />

event that takes in the 330-km Alpine Way.<br />

Thousands of riders <strong>to</strong>ur the <strong>Snowy</strong> <strong>Mountains</strong>,<br />

s<strong>to</strong>pping at checkpoints in Adaminaby, Dalgety,<br />

Berridale, Jindabyne, Cooma and Bombala.<br />

Annual Bredbo Sheep Dog Trials<br />

The Bredbo Sheep Dog Trials are run on two<br />

fields of the Bredbo Recreational Grounds.<br />

There are a number of categories, including<br />

Encourage, Novice, Improver and Open for<br />

the Champions. Free admission for specta<strong>to</strong>rs.<br />

December/January<br />

NPWS Kosciuszko National Park<br />

Discovery Program<br />

A program of <strong>to</strong>urs and <strong>events</strong> that encourages<br />

visi<strong>to</strong>rs <strong>to</strong> explore Australia’s largest national<br />

park. Discovery features activities such as<br />

<strong>guide</strong>d mountain walks, s<strong>to</strong>rytelling and talks,<br />

wildlife <strong>to</strong>urs and vegetation surveys.<br />
