Breaking symmetries from SO(1, 13) to
SO(1, 7) × U(1) × SU(3) occurs at very high energy scale (E
> 10 16 GeV) and leaves eight families (2 8/2−1 = 8,
determined by the symmetry of SO(1, 7)) massless.
We are studying (with H.B. Nielsen, D. Lukman) on a toy
model of d = 1 + 5 how to obtain after breaking symmetries
massless spinors chirally coupled to the Kaluza-Klein-like
gauge fields. Boundaries and the ”effective two
dimensionalities” turn out to be very promissing.
