Case #8 • Varicella is caused by a herpes virus, that has become relatively uncommon due to vaccination • Usually presents with prodromal illness and the characteristic rash appears with 24 hours of the prodrome • Rash is characteristically vesicular in nature and presents in “crops”,, thus there will always be lesions of various ages on one patient • Rash usually starts on the upper trunk, face or neck and spread centripedally • IT ALWAYS is pruritic
