This year’s 19th Annual Rusty Duncan Advanced <strong>Criminal</strong> Law Short Course brought<br />
together more than 600 lawyers and judges to hear speakers on pertinent criminal defense<br />
topics. This year included an appellate break-out session. Special thanks to Tom Pappas<br />
(Dallas) and Danny Easterling (Houston), course directors, who did an outstanding job<br />
of putting together this year’s line up of outstanding speakers.Thanks to all of this year’s<br />
attendees for their support. Most of the comments from attendees were positive about the<br />
move to the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center.<br />
Please save the date for June 7-9, 2007 for next year’s Rusty Duncan at the Henry B. Gonzalez<br />
Convention Center. Courses directors will be Randy Wilson (Abilene), Keith Hampton<br />
(Austin) and Darlina Crowder (McKinney). <strong>The</strong> Hilton Palacio del Rio will be the host hotel,<br />
with room blocks also available at the Menger Hotel and Red Roof Inn.<br />
TCDLA is celebrating 35 years of service to its members. Thank to all our members. Thank<br />
you for making TCDLA successful. TCDLEI celebrated 25 years of service to criminal<br />
defense lawyers.<br />

<strong>The</strong> new TCDLA Punishment Manual written by Keith S. Hampton and Philip Wischkaemper<br />
will be available for purchase in August.<br />
<strong>The</strong> TCDLA Strategic Planning Committee will meet in South Padre Island. Stanley Schneider<br />
is the chair. In the upcoming months, committee members will be putting together<br />
a strategic plan for the association. <strong>The</strong>y will be seeking membership input on the plan.<br />
<strong>The</strong> committee will look at making recommendations to the TCDLA board about TCDLA’s<br />
future.<br />
Marisol Valdez has taken the position of director of media — print & web. She is assuming<br />
responsibilities for the TCDLA website. Miriam Herrera has been promoted into the database<br />
manager position. Susan Fuller has been promoted to the services clerk position.<br />
