STUDENT PROFILE<br />
APPLICATION GUIDELINES<br />
Criteria for admission onto COPA full-time programmes<br />
It is a requirement for all COPA full time students to be able to speak and write English.<br />
NQF2 / ACM Basic Certificate: (Course duration – 1 year)<br />
• Normal minimum age 16 in the year the course commences.<br />
• There is an upper age limit <strong>of</strong> 23 for study at this level.<br />
• The average NQF2 applicant will usually have 1-2 years experience in their discipline.<br />
• The applicant must successfully complete the relevant audition.<br />
NQF3 / ACM Intermediate Certificate: (Course duration – 1 year)<br />
• Normal minimum age 17 in the year the course commences.<br />
• There is an upper age limit <strong>of</strong> 24 for study at this level.<br />
• The ideal NQF3 applicant will have successfully completed the COPA NQF2 course or<br />
equivalent qualification.<br />
• The average NQF3 applicant will usually have 2-3 years experience in their discipline.<br />
• The applicant must successfully complete the relevant audition.<br />
NQF4 / ACM Advanced Certificate: (Course duration – 1 year)<br />
• Normal minimum age 18 in the year the course commences.<br />
• There is an upper age limit <strong>of</strong> 25 for study at this level.<br />
• The ideal NQF4 applicant will have successfully completed the COPA NQF3 course or<br />
equivalent qualification.<br />
• The average NQF4 applicant will usually have 3-4 years experience in their discipline.<br />
• The applicant must successfully complete the relevant audition.<br />
Higher Certificate: Music Performance (Course duration – 1 year)<br />
• Normal minimum age 18 in the year the course commencement.<br />
• There is no upper age limit for study at this level.<br />
The ideal Higher Certificate student will have successfully completed the COPA NQF4<br />
course or equivalent qualification.<br />
• The average Higher Certificate student will usually have 4-5 years experience in their<br />
discipline.<br />
• The applicant must successfully complete the relevant audition.<br />
BMUS(Hons): Music Performance (Course duration – 1-3 years including Higher Certificate)<br />
• see Higher Certificate above<br />
Please note: All auditions (except for NQF2) consists <strong>of</strong> 3 parts:<br />
1: The audition criteria as stated on page 6-14 <strong>of</strong> this form<br />
2: An Aural (Ear Training) assessment<br />
3: A Theory <strong>of</strong> Music assessment<br />

Direct entrance into NQF3, NQF4 or Higher Education will only be considered once<br />
all three components have been passed for the applicable level.<br />
