This workshop will bring delegates up-to-date with <strong>the</strong> latest developments in languages in<br />

secondary schools. In particular it will focus on innovations in pedagogy (especially cross-curricular<br />

initiatives which include o<strong>the</strong>r subjects – History or Geography, for example – being taught in o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

languages), ICT (with <strong>the</strong> latest on blogs <strong>and</strong> podcasting!), <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> growing importance of<br />

<strong>international</strong>ism. A small panel of teachers will give short presentations <strong>and</strong> answer questions.<br />

This workshop will consist of a one-hour introduction to Podcasting (<strong>the</strong> syndicated distribution of<br />

audio or video files across <strong>the</strong> internet).<br />

Linguacast<br />

Andrew Grenfell - Manager of Open Learning Resources at <strong>the</strong> Language Centre,<br />

Newcastle University - will give a presentation about <strong>the</strong> Linguacast project<br />

http://linguacast.ncl.ac.uk/. This is a demonstration podcasting site that was set up to learn<br />

how MP3 audio files <strong>and</strong> podcasting can be used to facilitate language learning <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>international</strong>isation.<br />
