ANZAC Spirit Pilgrimage<br />

9 days/8 nights - Departs 22 April 2015<br />

Day 1 – Wed 22 April: Arrive Istanbul<br />

Arrive at Istanbul Ataturk Airport where hotel coach<br />

transfers are available. The remainder of the day is<br />

free to explore this amazing city. Stay two nights in<br />

Istanbul. Dinner is included at a local restaurant (D)<br />

Day 2 – Thu 23 April: Istanbul<br />

Experience a full-day guided tour of Istanbul<br />

including visits to the Hippodrome, Blue Mosque,<br />

Underground Cistern, Topkapi Palace and Grand<br />

Bazaar. We then delve into 1000 years of Turkish<br />

military history at the fascinating Harbiye Military<br />

Museum before attending a memorable concert of<br />

marching music from musicians dressed in traditional<br />

uniforms. Dinner tonight is included. (BD)<br />

Day 3 – Fri 24 April: <strong>Gallipoli</strong><br />

Spend the morning at your leisure before departing<br />

for <strong>Gallipoli</strong> this afternoon. We stop en route for<br />

refreshments and a meal, during which you will<br />

meet our ANZAC historians for an informative<br />

presentation and details of what to expect<br />

tomorrow. Upon arrival at <strong>Gallipoli</strong> we find a suitable<br />

viewpoint and wait in the open for the following<br />

morning’s Dawn Service. Please be prepared to sit<br />

out in the open throughout the night. (BD)<br />

Day 4 –- Sat 25 April: ANZAC Day Services*<br />

– Canakkale<br />

A boxed breakfast will be supplied. The Dawn<br />

Service commences at 5:30am followed later in<br />

the morning by the Australian and New Zealand<br />

services. At the conclusion of the commemorative<br />

services we join our coach, cross the Dardanelles<br />

by ferry, and arrive in Canakkale for a 4 night stay.<br />

Stop for lunch en route. (BLD)<br />

Day 5 – Sun 26 April: Canakkale<br />

Visit the remains of Troy, the 5000-year-old city<br />

made famous by Homer’s Iliad. This afternoon<br />

we will join our historians for a captivating<br />

presentation on the <strong>Gallipoli</strong> campaign and details<br />

of the coming days exploration of <strong>Gallipoli</strong>. (BD)<br />

Day 6 – Mon 27 April: <strong>Gallipoli</strong><br />

Cross the Dardanelles by ferry to discover some<br />

of the <strong>Gallipoli</strong> Peninsula’s most important sites.<br />

Starting at ANZAC Cove, we will visit the Lone<br />

Pine Australian Memorial, the Nek, Shrapnel<br />

Gully, Quinn’s Post, Shell Green and the Chunuk<br />

Bair New Zealand Memorial. After lunch we<br />

continue into the Helles Sector to visit Kilitbahir<br />

Castle, the Turkish Martyrs’ Memorial, the French<br />

Memorial, V-Beach Cemetery and the Helles<br />

Memorial. Our historians and guides will provide<br />

detailed information on battle sites, strategies<br />

and outcomes throughout the day. (BLD)<br />

Day 7 – Tue 28 April: <strong>Gallipoli</strong><br />

Today we head for the Suvla Sector of <strong>Gallipoli</strong><br />

to visit Fisherman’s Hut, Hill 10, Suvla Point,<br />

Chocolate Hill, Green Hill, Scimitar Hill, the<br />

Anafarta Guns and Bigali – the village where<br />

Turkish commander Kemal Ataturk once lived.<br />

Return to Canakkale to visit the Military Museum<br />

and the imposing Cimenlik Castle. (BLD)<br />

Day 8 – Wed 29 April: Canakkale – Istanbul<br />

Return to Istanbul to spend your final night in the<br />

vibrant Turkish capital. (B)<br />

Day 9 – Thu 30 April: Depart Istanbul<br />

The tour ends after breakfast at the hotel with<br />

a transfer to Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport. (B)<br />
