A Tribute to Brock Peters
On Thursday, October 6, 2005, The
HistoryMakers held a memorial reception
celebrating the life of legendary actor Brock
Peters at the California African American
Museum (CAAM) in Los Angeles. The
reception included a video montage featuring
several of Brock Peters’ films, including Carmen
Jones, Porgy and Bess, The Pawnbroker and
To Kill A Mockingbird. Actor and close friend
of Peters, Wren Brown, gave a moving and
memorable tribute to Peters and shared his
own personal experiences with the versatile
actor. The HistoryMakers Executive Director
Julieanna Richardson thanked Brock Peters’
family members and presented Marilyn Darby,
Peters’ long time friend and companion, with
The HistoryMakers trophy in memory of the late
actor. Other speakers and attendees included
Paul Brock and Congresswoman Diane
Watson. The event was sponsored by the MCI
Foundation and the California African American
Museum. Many thanks to CAAM executive
director, Charmaine Jefferson, Christopher
D’Jimenez y West and the entire CAAM staff.
Brock Peters passed away on August 23, 2005.
He was 78 years old.
