5. Soils and Land
Soils
The following areas are approximate:
• Medium to steep hill – Haldon and Kaikoura series – 188 hectares
• Paddocks and rolling downs – Kowai series – 605 hectares
• Low hills and downs – Tekapo series – 169 hectares
• Stony flats – Tasman series – 113 hectares
• Riverbed – 56 hectares
Fertiliser History
Approximate applications:
• Paddocks fertilised annually.
• Lower hill country top dressed by plane most years.
• Lime spread on newly worked paddocks and DAP etc drilled with crops.
Subdivision
The property is divided into 35 paddocks, 12 hill blocks and 11 deer paddocks.
Cover and Contour (approx)
250ha of cultivated paddocks made up of:
• 56ha deer unit
• 26ha Lucerne
• 34ha Swedes, Kale, Rape and new grass,
balance being grass paddocks
A lot of re-grassing has been done.
The balance being medium to steep healthy tussock
country.
