Introduction
About the Region
Argentina has positioned itself as the fifth producer in the world of wines with 225,846 hectares of vineyards in
production. Although it is considered one of the countries of the “new world”, it has a viticultural history of more than
five centuries. Argentina has 2 wine producing regions, which in turn are divided into provinces: the North (Salta and
Catamarca) and the Cuyo (La Rioja , San Juan and Mendoza). Without a doubt Mendoza is the region that produces the
best quality wine. Mendoza is 1,043 kilometers from Buenos Aires and 183 kilometers from Santiago de Chile. It has an
international airport and there are several daily flights from these two cities. Most of the region’s production is currently
being exported to the USA, Brazil, Canada, UK, and the Netherlands.
Located in the eastern foothills of the Andes, in the shadow of Mount Aconcagua, vineyards are planted at some of the
highest altitudes in the world with sites located 600–1,400 meters above sea level. The Andes Mountains are the main
factor for the successful performance of Mendoza wines. Being away from the ocean, Mendoza enjoys a warm semidesert
continental climate. It rains very little. As a result of these characteristics big, healthy grapes with intense colors
and rich flavors are produced.
Valle de Uco is southwest of the city of Mendoza at a distance of 75 kms at a latitude of 34 degrees south. Its elevation
varies between 900 (in the area of “Viejo Tupungato”) and 1400 meters (near our vineyard) above sea level. With an
average temperature of 10 degrees celsius the area is ideal for the production of high quality wine and the aging of
red grapes. Among the best varieties of red being produced are: Top quality Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon,
Sangiovese, Barbera, Bonarda and Tempranillo. Among the whites: excellent quality Semillon, Torrontes Riojano,
Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc .
Its proximity to the Andes provides Valle de Uco with spectacular views and makes it an ideal location for Eno-Tourism
as well as other tourist attractions such as golf, fly fishing, horse riding, water rafting, hiking, mountain biking, and skiing
(all within 3 hours driving distance).
