Modern Art Oxford presents A Blow by Blow<br />
Account of Stone Carving in Oxford<br />
12 April – 8 June<br />
Through his projects, artist Sean Lynch develops<br />
representations of idiosyncratic moments from the<br />
past, perhaps almost forgotten, but which have left a<br />
trail of objects, events or narratives.<br />
Modern Art Oxford presents his latest project - A Blow by Blow<br />
Account of Stone Carving in Oxford in which Lynch explores<br />
the work of 19th century stone carvers John and James O’Shea,<br />
whose naturalistic renditions of animals and plants are still visible<br />
in locations in Oxford and Dublin.<br />
Art Grenoble<br />
2014 is a very special celebration for<br />
Oxford. The Oxford/Grenoble Twinning<br />
Association are celebrating 25 years of<br />
friendship between the two cities. Seven<br />
artists from Grenoble have been invited<br />
to exhibit at two venues from 26th April<br />
‘Alps and Spires’ at the Town Hall<br />
Gallery (venue 306) is a collaboration<br />
between three Oxford artists and four<br />
Grenoble artists exploring the theme of<br />
‘Alps and Spires’ and the different visual<br />
characteristics of the two cities.<br />
‘Art Grenoble’ at HemingwayArt in<br />
Cassington (venue 109) shows work by<br />
several Grenoble artists, a chance for<br />
audiences to see French art in an<br />
English setting.<br />
Artists taking part from Grenoble are:<br />
Virginia Alfonso, Agne Brumes, Martine<br />
Chaperon, Jean-Pierre Malandrino, Francoise Millon, Markus Nine,<br />
Sonia Serrano. They are joined by Madi Acharya-Baskerville, Diana<br />
Bell and Kate Hamersley from Oxford.<br />
There are additional events from 26th April to 3rd May as part of<br />
this celebration including photographs at Blackwell’s Bookshop,<br />
music, , French films, and a Big Book public participation event<br />
‘Tales from Two Cities’ at the Story Museum from 26th April to<br />
3rd May. The Big Book created by Diana Bell is believed to be<br />
the third largest book in the world with over 5,000 contributions in<br />
ninety languages. It has been shown both in Grenoble and Oxford<br />
and this is its final appearance.<br />
