It has been a very busy year for the
VandeHey clan. Dalton is 8 years
old and has been in football, 4-H,
Boyscouts and soccer. He will be a
3rd grader next year.
Kristi finished kindergarten this
year. She took dance through the
YMCA and had a recital in spring. She
now plays soccer. She has also been
busy losing teeth. “Ask her to smile
and you will see that this is one girl
who will not be eating corn on the cob
this summer.”
Jackie was in preschool and is
moving on to kindergarten. She was
also in dance and soccer.
All three children had summer
school this year (learning about basketball
and math games). Dalton and
Kristi earned Great America tickets for
reading, and the family went there the
last week in June.
Mitchell has learned to walk just
recently as you can tell by the bruises
on his head. He currently has more
teeth than Kristi!
Marty & Kim went to Las Vegas
in April. They saw some shows, lost
some money and had lots of fun! It
was their first vacation in years, and it
was great to get away from it all.
Marty is doing well, and Kim is
still working at the Neuroscience
Group as a nurse.
They have nine pigs right now and
Marty plans to get chickens soon.

Marie sadly reports on the death
of their oldest child, Gloria
Bendixen, who was 59 years
old, and killed in an automobile accident
on August 28, 2001. Gloria loved
life, and the whole family misses her
so much.
Marie writes, “So many times
Gloria used to say how lucky we were
to have 11 children in our family, and
would playfully try to guess who
would be the first one to meet their
Savior in Heaven, never thinking that it
would be her.”
Marie also reports she had some
bad luck on October 20, 2001. She
had been experiencing some minor
health problems, and then slipped at
home and broke her arm.
Marie & Walter celebrated their
60 th wedding anniversary on January
6, 2002 at the home of Lynn & Bob
Cole in Appleton.
Another happy day for them was
the wedding of their son Stanley to his
new wife Gretchen, who were married
on May 10, 2002 at St. Peter’s Church
near Fremont, Wisconsin by Pastor
John Brandt.
Another piece of happy news to
the family was the birth of a baby girl
to Jay & Mechelle Haese on May 16,
2002, the same day of her greatgrandpa
Westphal’s birthday. She
was given the name Aleaha Haven
Haese.
