A little history…
The Southern Illinois University Alumni Association was
established in 1896 by a group of students who wanted to
continue involvement with their alma mater after
graduation. The Association’s first recorded meeting was
held on June 10, 1896, at Southern Illinois Normal University,
the founding name of our alma mater.
Fifty-eight years later, on July 23, 1954, the organization was
incorporated and its legal name became “The Association of
Alumni, Former Students, and Friends of Southern Illinois
University, Incorporated.” At this meeting, it was agreed the
working name would be “SIU Alumni Association.”
Whether you live near the University
or far away, your membership is the
best way to stay connected to SIU.
Today, there are more than 235,000 graduates around the
world. As a membership dues-driven organization, the
Association strives to serve students of the past, present,
and future.
Membership dues are used in the effort to continually
improve member benefits, the University, and the alumni
and student experience. Membership is open to students,
alumni, and friends of the University. Whether you live near
the University or far away, your membership is the best way
to stay connected to SIU.

Southern Alumni magazine is sent out once a year
to all alumni, and quarterly to all members of the
Association. Southern Alumni keeps you in the
know on what’s happening at your alma mater.

Local chapters are a great way to
mingle with the Salukis in your area.

The Association supports and assists the off-campus commencement ceremonies to honor
and recognize the graduates in the completion of their degree.

The pages of the Southern Alumni keep alumni, faculty, staff, and community members
abreast and up to date on what it is occurring around campus and accomplishments of our
prestigious alumni community.
Off-Campus Events
Off campus events provide lasting connections with fellow alumni and their families through
