<strong>Program</strong> Description<br />
The Faculty. NCI Summer Curriculum in <strong>Cancer</strong><br />
Prevention faculty consists of approximately 85<br />
leading scientists at NCI, NIH, other government<br />
agencies, academia, cancer centers, and<br />
public and private organizations throughout the<br />
United States. The faculty is listed on our website<br />
http://cancer.gov/prevention/pob. The courses<br />
are designed to provide an interactive training<br />
experience to allow participants to develop a<br />
thorough knowledge of the activities in cancer<br />
prevention and control.<br />
Eligibility. Both courses are open to physicians,<br />
scientists, and other health care professionals<br />
who have an interest in cancer prevention and<br />
control. Acceptance into the CPFP is not necessary<br />
for participation in either course. Individuals from<br />
cancer centers, universities, health departments,<br />
industry, U.S. Federal Government, and from<br />
across the United States and around the world<br />
have previously attended.<br />
Recommended prerequisite courses are<br />
epidemiology, biostatistics, and cancer biology.<br />
Preference is given to individuals with a doctoral<br />
degree and/or relevant experience in cancer<br />
prevention and control. There is no cost to register<br />
or to participate in either course. Room, board,<br />
and transportation expenses are the responsibility<br />
of the participant. The NCI Office of International<br />
Affairs (OIA) has a limited amount of funding<br />
available for individuals from developing countries.<br />
International participants interested in financial<br />
support should contact the OIA by February 15.<br />
Molecular Prevention Course Participants 2008<br />
Dates/Times/Location. The Principles and<br />
Practice of <strong>Cancer</strong> Prevention and Control<br />
course is four weeks long and usually offered<br />
from July through early August. The Molecular<br />
Prevention course is a one week course usually<br />
offered in early August.<br />
Both courses are held in Rockville, Maryland.<br />
Lectures are scheduled Monday through Friday,<br />
8:30 am–2:30 pm (occasionally lecture times<br />
will vary).<br />
