MID CANADA REGIONAL SPECIALTY
I would like to thank Mid Canada for inviting me to judge your final Specialty
and for your hospitality which is second to none. Everyone we know who has
been has said “you must go to Thunder Bay” well, we finally made it and it was
great.
Special thanks to Silvia and Jim Martin together with the hard working
Committee who put on such a great show and also to my Ring Stewards,
Marian Young and Karen Volk who did a great job and not forgetting Terry
Young too.
Particular thanks go to you, the Exhibitors, for bringing your hounds for me to
judge and for your sportsmanship in accepting my decisions.
Judging your hounds was very interesting and my main winners fitted my
criteria and would also win anywhere. I was looking for hounds with strength
and substance, flowing lines, sound movement and in hard muscular
condition. As always these days, the quality was mainly in the females.
Temperaments, coats, condition and bone were excellent. Breeding Irish
Wolfhounds isn’t easy as we all know!
I was surprised to find so many hounds with short ribbing and long loins
which gave them a cut-up underline. Necks also seem to be a problem in
many exhibits; they were short, lacking both muscle and strength and without
the desired arch. Movement was disappointing in the younger hounds.
Best in Show - Rockhart Katja – was just what I was looking for, I loved her
outstanding type and quality.
I also loved the Veteran but unfortunately age was against her in the BOB
class. I think my Best Puppy was delightful, I am sure has a very bright future
and will certainly follow her progress with interest.

SENIOR PUPPY - MALE
1. STONEYBROOK LISMORE SHADOWMERE
Very raw, rangy baby, good bone, neat ears, good length of neck
adequate hind angulation, sound. (Judy Simon/Steve LeVan)
12-15 MONTHS – MALE
1. STARKEEPER GLENAMADDA KELLKER
Well grown, typical hound with good length and depth of body ample
bone good width all through and sweep to hindquarters but rather
upright in shoulder and upper arm at present. Needs to settle in

15 – 18 MONTHS – MALE
1. NINEGATES MAGILLAGAN
MID CANADA REGIONAL SPECIALTY
Upstanding shapely, well grown balanced youngster with good length
and strength of neck, adequate front and good bone. Strong, curvy
rear. Moved out well . I liked him a lot and would be interested in seeing
him when he fully matures. (Joel Mattson)
CANADIAN BRED – MALE
1. LONNKYLE PEER – BOS, WD, BEST CANADIAN BRED
Typical, well-made workmanlike hound in excellent condition, has both
strength and substance with good width all through. Pleasing head and
expression, neat ears. Well layed shoulder, would just prefer more arch
over the loin. Good width of hindquarters, powerful ground-covering
movement sound both coming and going. Best Opposite, Winners Dog
& Best Canadian Bred. (Lloyd Simmons)
2. LONNKYLE PRAIRIE POET
Another shapely hound, not as substantial as his littermate, balanced
both ends, with pleasing head, good slope to pastern. Sound
movement but did not cover as much ground as winner. Sire of Best

3. GLENAMADDA STARKEEPER BANNER
Different type of hound to the two above, rather flat in topline and less
curves all through. Good bone and feet, moved soundly. (Ewa Boldok/

BRED BY EXHIBITOR - MALE
1. ROCKHART NEMESIS - RWD
Well made male but I would like more of him. Good front and depth and
width of body, width through the hindquarters, would like longer legs.
Sound movement , held his outline on the move but rather overextended

2. LONNKYLE PAJABA

Typical hound, liked him for type, more of him than winner had good
bone and substance but not the front or width of second thigh of first.

3. NIGHTWING’S INFERNO
Another typical, balanced hound with good bone, and length of leg , one
who would also benefit from more width of second thigh. Unfortunately
he did not drive off his rear and was wide going away. (Joel Mattson)
4. CONNEMARA’S PAGAN JUSTICE
Not as mature, nor the width of thigh of those above, did not extend
when moving. (Debbie Sharpe)
OPEN – MALE
1. ROCKHART MEMORY OF KERRY
Workmanlike hound with good front, good bone moved soundly but
rather lethargic . Balanced. (Christiana Hartenstein/Lynn Simon)
2. ROCKHART LESTAT
Sired by winner and similar in type but not the flowing lines of his father,
would prefer more width of thigh and second thigh. Did not keep his
outline on the move. (Christiana Hartenstein/Lynn Simon)
3. STONEYBROOK SONNY SKYE
Plainer type of hound, adequate angulation both ends, not as mature as
two above. Rather flat in topline at present, moved soundly. (James &

JUNIOR PUPPY - FEMALE
1. WINDSEEKER’S ANARCHY
A delightful, quality baby, lovely head and expression, strong arched
neck, good shoulder placement and forechest, good feet, bone, sloping
pasterns , correct topline and underline, strong curvy hindquarters
lovely movement. Best Puppy (Ann Brockett)
2. LEGALLY BLONDE AT CURIANN

Well-grown rangy youngster, again lovely head and expression, neat
ears, curvy hindquarters and moved out well, not the front, substance

3. RUNS WITH WOLVES AT CURIANN
Not as houndy and does not have the curves or the previous two in this
class. Moved soundly. (Judith Ryan)
SENIOR PUPPY FEMALE

Pleasing head, neat ears, good length of neck, topline and underline, at
present she lacks curves . Sound movement. (Susan

Promising well grown youngster with good bone, slope to pastern,
depth and width throughout, strong hindquarters with width of thigh

2. KARONTARA TOMORROW IS ANOTHER DAY
Pleasing head and expression, correct topline, curvy hindquarters with
width of thigh, as yet not the maturity of winner. (Karon Volk/J.F. Volk)
15 - 18 MONTHS – FEMALE
1. GODIVA AT CURIANN
Pleasant head and expression, rather flat in topline, would prefer more
angulation both fore and aft, sound coming and going, ground covering

Very feminine with a beautiful head and expression, well layed shoulder
adequate forechest, good bone and feet with slope to pastern. Deep
body with good spring of rib covers ground so easily. (Anne Webb)
2. LONNKYLE PROXY
Rangier than winner in really hard condition, sound, moved well just not
the front of winner. I liked her a lot. (Susan Fall)

Both the above were immature – going through the “teenager” stage but

Super bitch, lovely type, full of quality, curves both ends. Moved well.

2. TALIESIN’S WYVER WILNET (Donna & David Smith)
Different type to winner, fair front, curvy hindquarters, nice and broad
over croup, muscled neck, good bone, very sound easy movement.
3. STARKEEPER GLENAMADDA USA FLAG
Well boned, attractive head and expression, rather forward in shoulder,
moved soundly and freely, (Susan Prokopenko/Jocelyne Gagne)
4. LONNKYLE PIETRA
Liked this one very much for type, good head, neat ears, lovely big
body, hind action let her down today. (Lloyd Simmons)

Lovely type in hard condition, with attractive head, strong neck, ample
forechest with width through the front, correct shoulder placement, deep wellribbed
body, correct topline and underline, sweeping hindquarters, moved

2. NIGHTWING’S RELENTLESS
Another typical hound, not quite the front of winner but none the less very
shapely, moved out well, sound coming and going, in super condition. (Joel

3. CONNEMARA’S SCANDAL AT BRIMSTONE
Big typical bitch with a lot to like. Nice front, good deep body and
hindquarters. Pleasing head, neat ears, good topline but rather long. Rather
lethargic today but movement was sound. (Debbie Sharpe)
4. TALIESIN’S WYLDE RUM RUNNER
Different type from those above, nicely constructed sound free mover who kept
her outline on the move. (Donna & David Smith)
VETERAN BITCH
1. Stonebrook Lakota At Foinaven
Lovely type, showed a lot of the youngsters how to move. Beautiful head,
good front, very curvy sweeping hindquarters, neat
