Who is CEDIA CEDIA, the Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association, is an international trade association bringing together professionals who are designers, installers, manufacturers and distributors of smart home technology and other industry affiliates throughout the world. Member companies specialise in planning and installing electronic systems for the home – typically media rooms, single or multi-room entertainment systems, home automation and communication systems, as well as integrated whole-house subsystems providing control of lighting, security, AV and HVAC systems. The association was founded in the US in 1989 and has a total global membership of over 3,500 member companies, a figure that continues to increase. Region 1 member classifications include Electronic Systems Professionals (designers and/or installers), Trade Suppliers (manufacturers and/or distributors), Professional Services (programmers), Sales Representatives and Affiliates (publications and exhibition organisers). CEDIA is a not-for-profit trade association and is governed by its members, who elect officers and board members. The Board of Directors is voted for by Electronic Systems Professional members only. The other members of CEDIA are represented at Council and Committee level. CEDIA Region 1, based in St Neots, Cambridgeshire in the UK, represents Europe, Africa, Russia, The Middle East, India and Pakistan. Home Technology, Professionally Installed
Who Benefits From CEDIA CEDIA Member Directory In addition to its many member services, CEDIA also provides consumers and design Everyone does. They also benefit by having CEDIA promote professionalism and honourable business practices in the field of custom installation, and the assurance that CEDIA ESP (Electronic Systems Professional) members have fulfilled CEDIA’s Certification requirements. Electronic Systems Professionals benefit in several ways. Consumers, builders, architects, interior designers and specifiers recognise them as a professional resource. Through CEDIA education conferences and training programs, they can continue to build knowledge in both technical and business skills to enhance the their employees and the growth of their business. They have access to data, publications and other materials that can further develop their business practices as well as a range of marketing and PR services. They also have an open line of communication to manufacturers, industry professionals and colleagues to address challenges and exchange information. Through CEDIA Certification, installers now have a benchmark in their industry against which to measure themselves. Being a CEDIA Certified installer or designer lends even more prestige to membership. Trade Suppliers benefit from CEDIA because equipment specified, installed and serviced by CEDIA members will satisfy customers, lead to enthusiastic referrals, and help the industry grow. CEDIA members provide manufacturers with feedback that will help them create products that perform more efficiently, are easier to install, and satisfy changing customer demands. Architects, specifiers and developers benefit as CEDIA offers CPD training courses to educate them further on custom installation and the advantages of working with a CEDIA member to ensure that the homeowner gets the most from their living environment. By assisting with the design of the future-ready home, CEDIA members can also increase the saleability of a property. professionals with an online and printed member directory with an up-to-date detailed list of custom design and installation specialists throughout Region 1. Why do companies join CEDIA Custom design and installation is at the cutting edge of a rapidly growing field and is establishing itself independently of the consumer-electronics industry. Among consumers, there is little awareness or appreciation for the specialised knowledge and skills of the Electronic Systems Professionals. Builders and developers are better informed, but most are not aware of the breadth of custom installation services, or aware of all they and their clients stand to gain by using CEDIA professionals. CEDIA’s purpose is to build recognition and acceptance for this specialised field, and to speak up for its interests in addressing the industry, government and the marketplace. How does CEDIA advance the interests of its members CEDIA helps its members in many ways: - Through educational programmes, trade shows, publicity, advertising, committees and regular meetings. - By building awareness of custom installation among consumers, and promoting CEDIA members as the most qualified contractors to design and install home automation and integrated systems. - By providing consumers with a list of members. - By establishing contacts with allied industries and professions including building, architecture and interior design. - By making publicity, advertising and sales tools available to all of its members. - By assisting members in improving their management and technical skills. - By working for the establishment of industry standards with respect to the design and installation of home electronic systems. - By monitoring and guiding the growth of the industry for the benefit of all its members and customers. www.cedia.co.uk E&OE.
